Tough going at Parliament Hills The 15km hilly and muddy course at the Southern Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hills is the ultimate challenge on the off road calendar with a superb field of athletes bidding for the crown. Hadleigh Legacy 10km

Hadleigh Country Park hosted the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike course that was designed to test the best athletes in the world; athletes on 2 wheels that is and without a little engine hidden about their equipment. Also home to the Bentley 15, this event, organised by Nice Work, was obviously going to be a difficult hilly course. A lot of firm paths, but undulating and with hair pin bends as we wound up one hill to fly down the next; technical sections involving large rocks (not good for anyone wearing spikes) and some proper muddy parts too. Colchester Ladies have a clean sweep It was a 1,2,3, for the Harriers ladies at the Castle Park 5km race, with Rebecca Cooke winning in 20-18, followed by team mates Amanda Henry 20-47 and Rachel Dale 20-57. Jackie Macllanen made her Harriers debut in 22-02 as did Sandra Fox in 23-19. For the men in a field of 333, Danny Millward broke 18 minutes for the first time with the 14 year old clocking 17-57 for 2nd place overall. Harriers maintain second spot Colchester Harriers maintained second spot in the 53-12 Cross Country league with a good overall runners up spot at an unusually mild Hadleigh(Suffolk ) which is one of the toughest courses on the calendar. It was Harriers ladies who led the way in what has been a very successful winter season so far with team  medals in all three County Championships and winning the Eastern County Cross Country Champs, as well as further 53-12 league victories and a winning performance at the Benfleet 15 . Great results from Harriers The Benfleet off road 15 is a tough event, taking in the Hadleigh Downs it is always a feast of mud, and this year was no different with the runners struggling on the saturated ground. The Colchester Harriers ladies swept to victory with great runs from Sarah Sellens  4th overall in 1:55:28, with Amanda Henry just behind in 5th spot clocking 1:55:53 and was the first Veteran lady. South Of England Indoor Championships

The first major indoor championships took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January at Lee Valley indoor stadium. first up on Saturday were u15 girls Megan Stevens and  Kira Wealls competing in the 60m. Megan was 4th in her heat in 8.51 , Kira running in 4th in 8.43 just making it through to the semi final. Kira managed 6th place in a tough semi final with a new PB in 8.38 The u17 boys 60m heats included Callum McKay and Mufaro Shava. Great day for Harriers and Rowe is Champion Colchester Harriers continued their great run of team medals at the Essex XC Championships with team silvers and bronzes and an individual gold for under 20 star athlete  Jordan Rowe to put the icing on the cake. Jordan Rowe is coming back to his best, the National XC runner-up from 2 years ago, stormed to victory in the under 20 race with a supreme show of running from the front, with another Colchester and Tendring athlete Ramadan Osman a fine 3rd for a double celebration for the Colchester clubs. High Easter to Cold Xmas marathon Smalls runner up The High Easter to Cold Xmas Marathon is a tough affair with 27 miles of muddy fields and tracks to contend with, Harriers Allen Smalls shook off his recent  illness to finish runner up only 5 minutes behind the winner , Smalls slowed in the last 4 miles to lose touch with the leader. Harriers lose by slightest of margins, but favourites to win league Margins are slight the higher level you get in running, and Colchester Harriers men had misfortune cast on them at the penultimate Essex League XC fixture held at a terribly muddy Epping Forest. Colchester Castle and Holkham  New year Park Runs Success for Harriers ladies and men ! Harriers ladies were running well at the Park Runs and Laura Shewbridge was exceptional clocking a new course record of 18-54 on her way to victory at the Holkham 5km in deepest Norfolk. Chris Manby was 6th overall in 19-00. Colchester Castle saw two 5km Park runs held in successive days with the New Years day race followed by the normal Saturday event.
