South Of England Indoor Championships
The first major indoor championships took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January at Lee Valley indoor stadium.
first up on Saturday were u15 girls Megan Stevens and Kira Wealls competing in the 60m. Megan was 4th in her heat in 8.51 , Kira running in 4th in 8.43 just making it through to the semi final. Kira managed 6th place in a tough semi final with a new PB in 8.38
The u17 boys 60m heats included Callum McKay and Mufaro Shava. Mufaro was 2nd in his heat with a massive PB running 7.38 and safely through to the semi final, Callum McKay was also 2nd in his heat in 7.28 joining Mufaro in the semi final. In the semi final Callum was first up finishing a very close 3rd in 7.24 a new PB but just missing out on the final by 0.2 seconds. Mufaro was 4th in his semi final in 7.45.
Then it was the turn of Charlie Everest in the 1500m and what a fine race he ran, in a straight final of 6 Charlie came home a superb 2nd to win a well deserved Silver medal.
On Sunday the sprinters were in action again over 200m up first was Rebecca Jeggo winning her heat comfortably in 26.05 a big PB to start the day. Rebecca stepped up again in the semi final winning in yet another PB 25.97. she managed 5th in the final 1n 26,32
Callum McKay drew the short straw and was handed lane 1 for his heat and ran in 2nd in a creditable 2nd in 23.85 another indoor PB, then in a dramatic 3rd heat Charlie Dobson ran the race of his life coming home 3rd in another massive PB 23.48 and knocking Callum out of the final spot.
In the final Charlie was a creditable 5th place in 24.13
Jake Young then took centre stage in the U17 boys 800m he ran a very controlled heat winning in 2:04.86.
and in the final he took the race out from the front leading through 600m he then took off with a blistering last 200 to win a fantastic Gold medal in a time of 1:59.10 a massive indoor PB.
