Essex marathon champion Allen Smalls continued his superb year with a runners-up spot over the 100km (62 miles) Stour Valley Way race from Newmarket to Catteswade. South of England Championships

Three Colchester Harriers athletes competed in the Southern Counties Championship at Ashford on Saturday. Jake Young was first up in the U17 men 800m where he returned to somewhere near his best gaining himself a very well deserved silver medal in a time of 1:57.83. Rebecca Jeggo continued her good run of form, winning the bronze medal in the U17 women’s 200m. First year U17 Callum McKay went in a very strong 100m field where he qualified for the final in 2nd place in a time 11.2s. Superb times by Harriers in top class race The Ipswich Twilight run on a fast course around Ipswich town centre produced some extremely fast times with a top class field of 120 trying to break their personal bests. Indeed the fastest time in the UK this year was run by Katrina Wooten of Coventry Godiva who clocked an astonishing 15:51, all of the first 8 ladies were under 17 minutes, while for the men International athlete Chris Thompson of Aldershot led the way home in 14:05, with Adam Hickey Southend runner up in 14:18 and Jake Shelley Shaftsbury Barnet third in 14:21. Chris Sellens has great run at Snowdonia trail Chris Sellens and Allen Smalls took on the severe climbs of the Snowdonia Trail Marathon held from Llanberis at the weekend. Smalls who was runner up in the Welsh Trail marathon at Coed Brennan the month previous, found this even tougher clocking 4:12:16 for 6th place overall and first veteran over 45. For once Smalls was beaten by a Harrier, with team mate Chris Sellens running like a lion to clip Smalls wings finishing in 5th spot in 4:09:26, only the winner, Victoria Park Harriers Sam Humpfreys bust 4 hours in 3:58:01. Ekiden Marathon Relay – Woodbridge School

Fantastic results from Harriers On a hot day 180 teams lined up for the Ekiden Marathon relay held at Woodbridge school on a grassed 2.5km circuit. Colchester Harriers were aiming to battle for all the titles against tough opposition. 60 Harriers competed in this popular event which see 6 in a team running legs of 7.2km, 5km, 10km, 5km, 10km and 5km. U17 Southern Inter-Counties

Two Colchester Harriers’ athletes were selected to represent Essex County Athletics‎ Association in the Eight Counties competition at Bromley on Sunday. Rebecca Jeggo had a busy afternoon in what was a strong field containing some of the UK’s top ranked sprinters. She was third in the 100m in a time 12.35s. In the 200m Rebecca went one better with a time of 24.97s, which was a legal personal best. She also ran the second leg in the 4 x 100m relay with Essex taking second place. English Schools

This years English Schools Athletics national championships were held in Gateshead's International stadium at the weekend. Three young Colchester Harriers athletes were in action, one representing Suffolk and two helping the Essex team to overall victory. Essex were crowned champions of the event and were helped by some exceptional performances, one being a Bronze medal winning performance from Philippa Davenhall in the senior girls Hammer. Bronzes for both teams Colchester Harriers are always to the fore in the road running Championships and yet again came away with a double haul of medals with both mens and ladies teams taking bronzes and unlucky not to take silvers in a very tight contest. Second claim Harrier Angus Holford was bronze medallist in 33:54 was supported by Chris Sellens who just missed out in 4th place 34:01, but took the team bronze medals along with Colin Ridley 11th 35:34 and Mark Harrod 14th 35:46. 17 in top 20 at Maldon Promenade Colchester Harriers supplied 17 of the first 20 fastest runners home at the latest Maldon Promenade 5km Handicap race, held on a reasonably windy evening in the Park.
