Smalls has a Welsh Adventure Colchester Harriers had a team of runners in Mid Wales for one of the toughest races on the calendar, the Welsh Trail Marathon help in Coed Brennan Forest including technical Mountain Bike trails and extreme climbs. Yet again Harriers Allen Smalls showed the way. The 48 year old cruised through the Field of experienced fell runners on the second half of the Marathon to finish runner up in 3:22:06 with only race winner Alastair Murray of Horwich ahead of him in 3:11:40. Eastern County Champs 2016

There were a number of Harriers competing on Saturday with many success stories, personal bests achieved, medals won and championship records broken. In the senior women Stacey Eyers won gold in the 800m with a time of 2:20.3. In the under 20 age group Connor Oliver won 100m gold with a PB of 11:04. Philippa Davenall added to her medal collection with gold in the Hammer with a winning throw of 53.28, breaking the championship record by 3.67m. SAL – Battersea Park

Harriers latest fixture saw them compete in Battersea Park with a somewhat depleted team, and several athletes covering many events, but sadly there were not enough, and despite some excellent personal results, and with much frustration for team managers: Helen Holdsworth and Linda Garnham, too many events were left unsupported. Colchester Harriers seventeen year old hammer thrower, Philippa Davenall, was in outstanding form at the weekend competing at the national under 20 championships in Bedford. Taking part in a competition where she was ranked 6th she far exceeded expectations to finish 2nd and therefore receiving a hard earned silver medal. In addition to her placing she also set a new under 20 and senior club record with a personal best of 54.86 metres. Yeovil Marathon Rodgers gets his qualifying time Colchester Harriers Paul Rodgers achieved his qualifying time for the 2017 London Marathon with a good finishing time of 3:07 at the Yeovil marathon. Rodgers was one of the many casualties in the blazing heat of the Halstead marathon so is pleased to have put the record straight at the Yeovil event. The young Harriers were out in force in the County Schools Championships at Chelmsford with fifteen athletes representing the North East Essex District, many achieving personal best times and distances The most successful event was the intermediate men’s 800M where Jake Young took gold ,1:59.6, and Oscar Dawson silver, 2:01.8, confirming their dominance in the event within the county. Scorching heat raises the standards Summer arrived at last for the third round of the EYAL meet held at Garon Park in Southend on Sunday 5 June. Over 50 Colchester Harriers youngsters held their heads high to take third place against fierce competition, inching ahead of the host Club. Smalls third marathon victory in four weeks Colchester Harriers Allen Smallls continued his amazing run of victories with yet another marathon win. This time over the extremely tough Stour Valley course from Nayland, Smalls clocked 3:13 over the 27 miles course and was well clear of the second placed runner. Smalls won the Essex marathon at Halstead and the Howgill race in the lake district and then followed this up with a fine 6th place at the Keswick 25km Mountain race, before charging to victory again at the Stour Valley event. Carwyn runs personal best at London 10km The London 10km saw a huge personal best from Colchester Harriers Carwyn Jones who clocked a superb 32:40 at this iconic race finishing close to Buckingham Palace. Martyn Clarke ran the Luton park run in 19:11 for third spot then travelled to Buxton where he was placed 32nd in a very tough half marathon in 1:31:50. Colchester Harriers senior team travelled to Chelmsford for the second Southern Athletic League division 1 match of the season on Sunday.  They were competing against the host club who were joint top of the league and strong teams from both Crawley and Norwich.
