England Athletics Under 20 Championships

Colchester Harriers seventeen year old hammer thrower, Philippa Davenall, was in outstanding form at the weekend competing at the national under 20 championships in Bedford.

Taking part in a competition where she was ranked 6th she far exceeded expectations to finish 2nd and therefore receiving a hard earned silver medal. In addition to her placing she also set a new under 20 and senior club record with a personal best of 54.86 metres.

In addition to this, her training partner Billy Praim-Singh, who is supported by Colchester Harriers, achieved a personal best of 60.58m when finishing 4th overall and third English athlete. For good measure this saw him beating three athletes ranked nationally higher.

They now have the exciting prospect of competing at Gateshead in July at the prestigious English Schools Championships. And with much hard and focussed work this should see both looking to improve on their bronze medals from 2015.
