53-12 Seniors The 2nd round of the 53-12 Cross Country League was held in very dry conditions at Ramsey, a first for this venue. Colchester Harriers led from the first round at Abbeyfields and hoped to sneak a second victory here to extend their lead. But an injury to leading man Chris Sellens saw Harriers men finish 19pts behind Jaffa, and with the Harries ladies not at full strength, and also recording a second spot, the overall team victory went to Ipswich with Harriers runner up. As many of you know tonight, I am standing down as Chairman. I have been a member since 1983 and a Committee Member for almost 30 years. In that time I have been involved in almost all the big decisions affecting the Club over the years. Some members objected to change and during 1988 when I campaigned for the Club to affiliate to the AAA, a group of members left and formed another Club named Team 88. Colchester Sports Awards

Recognising the tremendous achievement of Colchester's amateur sportsmen and women, the 2016 Colchester Sports Awards were presented last night (21 November) at Western Homes Stadium. Colchester Harriers came away with four awards including a certificate of commendation. In the U18 category for Rebecca Jeggo (16) for achievement in Sprinting. Rebecca came away as double Essex silver medallist at Essex County Champs and upgraded that to Gold at Essex Schools, she is double champion at Eastern County Champs and represented Essex at English Schools in 200m. On a very cold day the Essex XC league shifted across the border to Cambridgeshire to the Horseheath race course near Linton. In a very barren landscape a limited Colchester Harriers squad fought well although under resourced with top runners. The men and ladies managed 5th places in the team stakes through some solid performance. Denise Morley who has been battling away for endless years for the green vests led the team home in 15th spot and then Becky Cooke 17th, Ella Neale 18th and Annette Oakman 27th, completed the team, Becky Bjotter also ran very well for 63rd place. Junior Awards Night 2016

On the first really chilly night of the winter, Friday 18 November saw over 100 junior athletes and their families meet at the Pegasus Clubhouse to celebrate the successes of the 2016 season. Guest of honour was Harriers very own double Commonwealth and Olympian racewalker Dominic King – who wearing his inspiring GB team kit, kicked off the evening with a talk about his road to Rio followed by a Q & A session. 53-12 XC 30 Year Anniversary

Huge turn out for Harriers at Anniversary race The 30th Anniversary race of the 53-12 Cross Country League (formerly the Today's Runner League) was staged by Colchester Harriers at Abbey Fields where the original race was staged almost to the day in 1986. A record field of 418 seniors and 170 juniors took to the line on a cold but sunny morning. The original race organizer Peter Bartlett started the race with a firework cascade. Seniors Colchester Harriers had strong results at the 2nd Essex Cross Country league fixture held at Hylands park Chelmsford. The ladies were again in good form finishing third on the day to maintain their push to win the league title they submitted last year. Sarah Stradling may be 41 but is still a class act and her third position, not only gave the Harriers team a great team result, but also earned her an Essex Inter Counties vest on the day. Ramadam surges through windy Wix to victory Colchester Harriers Ramadam Osman swept to victory at the Wix 5 in a time of 26:27 in very windy conditions. Danny Millward ran a superb time of 28:45 to finish an impressive 8th in the field of 306. Richard Boden was 2nd veteran over 50 in 31:34 (24th) with team mates David Wright 31:39 (25th) and Dan Foster 31:47(26th) chasing Boden home. Joseph Boden ran a fast 32:29, with Mark Baker 34:04, Andrea James 35:17, Dave Gayer 36:17 and Sara Wallace 37:30. Men and Ladies have great results Colchester harriers were involved in numerous competitions at the weekend with plenty of success. With the Essex Cross Country league having its opening fixture and the Essex 10 mile Championships at Tiptree also occurring the strain is already on for the winter. There were also other races with Sarah Stradling decided on doing the Great Eastern half Marathon at Peterborough and the 41 year old produced a fabulous run clocking 1:19:05 to finish 7th and 1st veteran in a very high quality affair.
