A Brace of Bronze Medals for Harrier’s Elite Sprinters A handful of Harrier’s young track and field athletes took on the might of the Southern Indoor Championships held at Lee Valley Athletic Centre over the last two weekends. Essex Senior Cross Country Championships Claybury Grove, Woodford Mixed Fortunes as men take silver team medals The Essex Senior Cross Country Championships saw mixed fortunes for the Harriers who finally finished on a high with the men taking team silvers over the tough and muddy 7.5 mile Claybury course. The ladies were dogged by bad luck with numerous runners dropping out late on due to illness and injuries. Colchester Harriers Megan Stevens travelled to Lee Valley at the weekend to stretch her legs again, after competing last week in the New Years Day open meeting, along with Savannah Harrison at the South of England Indoor athletics Championships. “New Year’s Day saw three Harriers compete in the Lee Valley Open. Rebecca Jeggo competed in the two heats of the 60m. In her first heat she equalled the Under 20 Women’s club record with a time of 7.83, then followed this with a faster time of 7.77 to claim the club record for her own.  She also ran the 200m in 25.22 with another indoor PB and U20 club record to show for her efforts. Xmas and New Years Park runs Shewbridge wins on Veteran debut The festive Holiday season got off to a bang with Laura Shewbridge winning Colchester Castle park run on her debut as a veteran lady coming home in 19:42 in windy conditions, Richard Heath 17:41 was 2nd man, with Paul Rodgers 4th 18:00 and Anthony Barraclough 5th 18:17. Colchester Park Run Rowe returns in style Colchester Harriers had a fabulous result at the latest Castle 5km with the green vests filling all the first 7 places with 5 of the Colchester runners aged between 15:19. Jordan Rowe returned from University to show he is still a top runner clocking a winning 16:56 on what must be one of the toughest Park runs in the country . At a cold and wet Horspath near Oxford four Harriers represented Essex in the South of England Inter-Counties cross country races. Around 13 counties were represented with each county selecting 8 runners to compete in each age category Milly Presland picked up her first Essex vest, for the U13 girls team, and finished 66th in a strong field (6th Essex runner home).
