London Marathon Smalls top for Harriers again Allen Smalls magic touch continues even at the tender age of 49 he produces great marathons finishing 249th overall in 2:38:17, Ged Mcmillan ran a personal best 2:43:49, with Mark Harrod also running a best ever time of 2:53:11, Marie Shirley continues to totter on the edge of the magic 3 hours clocking 3:06:24 this time, while a superb and huge personal best came from Laura Shewbridge in 3:08:50. The Colchester Harriers produced an outstanding team performance on a warm Easter Saturday to take a second place to one of the country’s top clubs Blackheath & Bromley in the first Southern Athletic League match of the season. It was an accomplished team performance achieving an overall score of 200 points. Team win for Harriers at Sudbury 5 Colchester Harriers swept to the team prize at the Sudbury Good Friday 5. Allen Smalls led the team home in 4th spot also winning the veteran category in 28:06, 2nd claim James Wright was 5th in 28:09, while the winning team was made up of Colin Ridley 9th 28:44, Paul Rodgers 10th 28:45 and Paul Preston 11th 28:45. Personal best from Rodgers in hot conditions Paul Rodgers led a good turn out of Harriers at the Bromley 10km, which was run in hot conditions over a very flat course and well staged by Harwich Road runners. Rodgers finished 6th overall in a personal best time of 35:36, a superb effort over the hot roads and was also first veteran over 40. Young Danny Millward was 12th in another personal best of 37:26, with Keith Marley not far behind in 37:40 for 14th. Another gold for Ridley Colchester Harriers Colin Ridley kept up is amazing spell of form with a gold medal in the Essex 5 mile road Championships held from Gt Leighs racecourse an excellent venue. Ridley took the over 50 gold in 28:30 not bad considering he has now reached 55 years. Fran Norris took silver in the over 55s ladies with a fine performance clocking 37:45 and Pete West 30:06 showed that he is on the comeback trail with a bronze in the over 50 mens category. Smalls continues his great from Colchester Harriers Allen Smalls has been on top form this year winning numerous off Road Marathons. For a change Smalls went to the Lake District to take part in the famous Coniston 14 a hilly road race. Smalls was pleased with his time of 1.22 for 5th place, as he continues his warm up for the Northumbrian 100 mile race in May. Fay Smalls also competed and ran a good 2:17. Huge haul of medals for Harriers Harriers weekend got off well with over 55 runner Colin Ridley coming home silver Medalist in the national Veteran XC Championships held in Liverpool, in a sprint finish Ridley grabbed 2nd place and was very unlucky not to be champion. Also this week Ridley claimed the Masters over 55 indoor 3000m silver medal clocking 9:43 at Birmingham. The Essex Road relays has a record field of close to 100 teams at Harwich sea front.  Lanes 1 & 2 – Endurance (including faster and longer speed endurance sessions 400/800m runners) Lane 3 – Buffer lane Lanes 4-7 sprints (including sprint drills) Lane 8 – spare Walk back recoveries must be done off the track or lane 8 if free. Straight after reps, step off the track to continue the recovery period.
