Harriers excel at English Schools Champs Five members of Colchester Harriers were among the 2,000 young athletes who flew the flag for their Schools’ county teams at this year’s prestigious English Schools Track and Field Championships on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 July, bringing home four medals between them. Busy Weekend of Track and Field

Darcey shines bright at National Champs On the 1 and 2 July, Colchester Harriers was represented by Darcey Monaghan at the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships. Typhoo was delighted to support the event, organised by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS). Following eight regional qualifiers, the National Championships took place at Warwick Athletics Stadium in Coventry and featured more than 200 junior disabled athletes from across the UK. Essex Grand Prix 10km

Gold for Harriers team Adrian Mussett continues to master the road races although 44 he finished runner up in the tough course at Brentwood in the Essex 10km road Championship, Mussett's second position earned him Essex individual silver, Veteran gold and Team gold. Joining Mussett in the winning team were Andy Jobling 11th and Ged McMillan 12, for Jobling it was his first county medal as he continues to improve. Colin is double Champion Colchester Harriers Colin Ridley had a sparkling double over the weekend winning two titles at the Birmingham track to become a double British Masters over 55 Champion. Ridley won the 1500ms in 4:36 on the Saturday and made it a golden pair with a smart win in the 5000m in 17:08 on the Sunday. There was a reduced number of Harriers to previous years at this event, but those attending competed well in blustery conditions, with a number bringing home medals. The busiest athlete was Isabella Minder, who competed in the long jump, 75m hurdles and 200m, achieving a personal best of 31.76s in the 200m & a season’s best in the hurdles. Harriers finish third on home soil Colchester Harriers claimed a solid third place in the latest Southern Athletics League Division One meeting at their home track. In extremely hot conditions while missing a number of key athletes, Colchester hung on to a courageous third place which keeps them on pace with the top clubs in the league. Jake Young and Stacey Eyers claimed the Man of the Match awards, Jake for his strong run in the 400 metres of 50.6s and Stacey for her hard fought second place in the women’s 800, crossing the line in 2.20.1s. A blistering hot weekend brought some blistering speed from the uk's top under 20 and under 23 athletes at the Bedford International Stadium, many of whom were looking for qualifying times for this years European championships. Among those at Bedford, was the recent South of England under 20 Hammer champion, Phillipa Davenall ,unfortunately this time Phillipa had to settle for 8th in final, her best throw being 51.05m. U20s Southern Championships

Phillipa Davenall, Rebecca Jeggo and Charlie Dobson represented the Harriers at the Southern Outdoor Age Group Championships on Sunday 11 June. Thanks to wide-ranging improvements that have been, and are still being carried out, the championships were able to return to the iconic Crystal Palace. Work continues on repairing and cleaning the track itself, and on much of the infrastructure. Colchester Harriers athletes were again out in force mostly competing for the North East Essex team at the Essex Schools championships in Chelmsford on Saturday. There were some fantastic performances in some extremely challenging conditions with the sprinters running into a fierce headwind.
