Colchester Harrier members clinched the top spot in three age group categories as well as two commendations and a winner in a special award at the 2017 Colchester Sports Awards held at Western Homes Stadium on Monday 20 November.  Now in its 15th Year, the standard has risen year on year and this year’s awards had the largest range of nominations across twenty sports ranging from Equestrian to Ice Skating, Fencing to Trampolining. Eastern XC Championships

Great runs by Deacey and Caulfield Colchester Harriers were out in force for the Eastern XC Championships held at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, with 70 green vests competing. It was a double victory in the under 17 race, with Mary Ann Deacey on her Harriers debut and the up and coming Max Caulfield surging to victory. The under 17 mens team also won silver team medals with 4th placed Elmeas Afewerki and Joseph Boden completing the team, Fergus Crouch missed a team medal by one place. Cooke wins Grand prix

Colchester Harriers AC’s Becky Cooke became the Green vests first ever female Senior road Grand Prix of Essex winner after finishing 6th in the final event the Stebbing 10 mile at the weekend. Cooke has run well throughout the whole series which started in March with the Essex 20 and also included the very tough Halstead marathon, Keith Marley ran a good Stebbing in 62mins, with Simon Morgan clocking 70 mins in one of his first runs as an over 50. Holford wins by a distance Angus Holford ran the latest 53:12 XC league fixture at Ramsey from the front to finish over a minute clear of the field. Holford led his team mates to within 20 pts of 1st placed Ipswich Jaffa and the green vests were happy with the result and a good turnout of over 50 Seniors and Juniors. Colchester Harriers kicked off the league Cross country season with a tough double of matches at Horseheath Cambridgeshire for the Essex league and Writtle College for the 53:12 league. Essex League Great early news was from under 17’s Hannah Watson and Max Caulfield who’s performances on the day earned them Southern Inter Counties vests for Essex. Great run by Stradling at Birmingham half marathon Colchester Harriers Sarah Stradling made the podium at the Birmingham Half, now one of the biggest Half marathons in Britain. Stradling clocked an impressive 1:22:10 in very warm conditions to finish only 30 seconds behind the winner, straddling moved through the field from 5th position late on to come close to overall victory. Inaugural Run, Jump, Throw competition

Saturday 14 October saw not only the sun come back out, but also the inaugural Harriers Mini Run, Jump & Throw competition take place at the track.   30 youngsters ranging from 9 – 16-year-old enjoyed the opportunity to compete in both 150m & 75m sprints, a long jump and an over arm ball throw.  Most of the participating athletes are already part of the Harriers development squad who meet on Sunday mornings and work with Paul Strutt, Annette Bland and Dave Smith.  Others were invited from the Junior waiting list as well as an invitation was sent out to local primary... read more

Essex XC relays

The Essex Cross Country relay Championships were held at Stubbers outdoor centre at Upminster and although Harriers had weakened teams due to the National Road Relays good results were still found. An early blow was an injury on the first leg to the (A) Teams men’s Jon Nears which meant the team had to retire. However the green vests spirit came through and they were rewarded with team bronze medals in the mixed team of 4 event thanks to Sarah Stradling, Rebecca Cooke, Mark Harrod and Richard Heath. Great Effort in National Final by Green vests Colchester Harriers appeared in the National 6 x 6km stage Road running final at Sutton park Birmingham after qualifying at Crystal palace two weeks previous. With the best 90 teams in the country it was going to be tough, Harriers ran superbly throughout against top class company to finish 54th.
