Eastern XC Championships
Great runs by Deacey and Caulfield
Colchester Harriers were out in force for the Eastern XC Championships held at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, with 70 green vests competing. It was a double victory in the under 17 race, with Mary Ann Deacey on her Harriers debut and the up and coming Max Caulfield surging to victory. The under 17 mens team also won silver team medals with 4th placed Elmeas Afewerki and Joseph Boden completing the team, Fergus Crouch missed a team medal by one place.
It was silver and bronze medals for Joe Patterson 2nd and Oscar Dawson 3rd in the under 20 mens event, while the Harriers Mens and ladies teams both took bronze medals with Andrea James, Becky Cooke and Ella Neale for the ladies and the men (6 to score) Chris Sellens, Allen Smalls, Nathan Filer, Paul Rodgers, Paul Spowage and Richard Heath. Paul Spowage also took the individual silver in the over 50 category with Andy Raynor taking the bronze.
The ladies teams as well as finishing 3rd were also 5th and 8th and super runs came from Samantha Hart, Jo Marks, Cheryl Appleby, Jackie MacLlanen, Jenny Richardson, Ellie Cumner, Rachel Rodgers and Louise Yates. The mens B team was also 5th with Richard Flutter, Andy Raynor, Simon Smith, Simon Morgan, Jon Nears, Simon Miller, Russell Goodridge, Chris Manby and David Hilson all going well. The under 13 and under 15 squad all ran well, but results were not forthcoming.
Other results
Colin Ridley had a superb run in the UK and Ireland Masters XC held in Ireland where he was representing England, Ridley came 5th overall in the over 55 event and was on the winning England team which took the gold medals.
Sarah Stradling was a fine 2nd at the Chelmsford 10km in 37:27 to continue her excellent form over many years, Michael Majors was 5th overall in a superb time of 34:16, while Kevin Higgins ran a personal best 38:49. Johhny Zeeuw ran 45:33, Oliver Saunders 47:58 and Cormac Murray 55:57.
Tom Cresswell was a fine runner up at the tough Hadleigh 10 in a personal best 57.55 Keith Marley was 12th in 61:42, Helen Thurlow completed her first race over that distance in1:21.
At the Castle park run in Colchester Dominic Kings running continues to improve and he clocked 18:05 for 2nd overall with Ian Haw 6th in 19.13, Jasmine West was 2nd lady 21:11. Laura Shewbridge was first lady and 8th overall at the Ipswich event in 19:17. Drew Olley was runner up at Greta Cornard in 19:05.
