Harriers Snatch a quartet of Championship Best Performances at County Indoor Champs

A relatively small, but hungry group of young Harriers Track and Field athletes did themselves and the club proud at this years Essex County and Eastern Counties Indoor Championships held over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th February. A total of four Championship Best Performances and four club records were taken over the two days with a clutch of medals gained from across all age groups.   A number of Colchester Harriers under 20 track athletes, opened up their indoor season, at the South of England Indoor Athletics Championships, held at Lee Valley over the weekend of 13th & 14 January. Notable performances were produced, in a highly competitive and hard-fought weekend of high quality athletics. In her first outing as a Under 20 age group athlete and also her first as a Colchester Harrier, the highly talented Joy Ogunleye won a bronze medal, in the 60m Sprint, setting a new club record for the event. Pole Vault Success For Olivia

In a close competition Olivia Simon again showed her huge potential by winning the U15 pole vault gold medal at the Southern Indoor Championships, at Lee Valley indoor centre Olivia's clearance of 2.5m was just short of her P.B of 2.6m and was equalled by the silver medallist. Men take team silvers in muddy conditions Colchester Harriers were runners up yet again at the Senior men's cross Country Championships held over a tough muddy 7.5 mile course at Great Notley Country park. With 9 of the team pulling out on the day due to flu and another 4 with injuries medals looked unlikely in Essex’s best quality race of the season. Runners vs Cyclists

The annual Boxing Day Runners v Cyclists clash over Friday Woods drew a record field of nearly 200 competitors. It was once again a triumph for the classy cyclists who took advantage of the dry conditions packing the top 13 positions before the first runner came home to maintain the Markham Cup for the 17th consecutive time, scoring 21 points to the runners 147 (lowest score wins). Harriers double team gold spectacular Colchester harriers has a spectacular run of results at the Veteran XC championships held at Writtle College winning gold team in both veteran men 40 and 50 Championships and bronze team in the Veteran ladies event. The day got off to a flier with the up and coming star Milly Presland taking 3rd place and the Essex bronze in the under 15 Championships booking her place in the Essex Southern inter counties cross country team. Colchester Harriers 2017 Junior Awards Night

Hard work, resilience and consistent training reap rewards. On Friday 24 November over eighty guests from Harrier Juniors and their families enjoyed the annual awards night, held this time at Stanway Rovers Clubhouse. After a couple of technical hitches with the oven and lack of bar staff - the evening started with U13 Zion Ateba being awarded an achievement certificate for Speed:  this year Zion has reduced her 100m time by over a second, her 200m by over a second and her 70m Hurdles by a staggering 2.5s as well as claiming a bronze medal at the Essex County Championships in the U13... read more

53-12 Abbeyfields On a cold but sunny morning 400 plus runners competed in the latest 53:12 XC League fixture at Abbeyfields. Colchester Harriers had an excellent turnout considering they were staging the event and had competitors at he Essex XC League the day previous. It was Angus Holford who was a run away winner leaving team mate Ramadam Osman after the first lap of three on the 5 mile course which is a lot tougher then it looks.
