A sensational weekend of athletic action took place at the EIS in Sheffield as hundreds of youngsters battled it out at the England Indoor Age Group Championships. Representing Harriers this year in their respective 200m races were Rebecca Jeggo and Charlie Dobson. Unfortunately, Joy Ogunleye who was due to compete in the 60m had to pull out due to a niggling injury. Having gained the qualification standard at the Essex & Eastern Indoor Championships, British Athletics invited Rebecca Jeggo to compete at their Indoor Championships held at the Birmingham Arena on Sunday 18th February, which was broadcast on the BBC. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, Rebecca coped admirably and lined up in heat four against opponents who had all represented their respective countries. A relatively small, but hungry group of young Harriers Track and Field athletes did themselves and the club proud at this years Essex County and Eastern Counties Indoor Championships held over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th February. A total of four Championship Best Performances and four club records were taken over the two days with a clutch of medals gained from across all age groups. On Saturday 27 January, U20 sprinter Charlie Dobson opened his season on a high when he made his England debut at the Vienna Indoor Classic at the Dusika-Hallen-Stadion in Vienna, Austria.   Having suffered a dose of the dreaded lurgy which swept through the country over Christmas and New Year, Dobson had not returned to full training when he received his call-up, however, coach Steve Garnham was confident his protégé was ready for the challenge and so along with 28 other athletes - the majority of them in their 20's, as well as team managers, doctors and physios, Dobson jetted... read more

It is with deep regret and sadness, that the club has to announce the sad loss of Karen Wheat who passed away on Wednesday evening,, a long time servant, track and field official and coach, who played a large part in the development of the club. Karen initially came as parent and her daughters Stacey and Nicola and son Andrew, all competed for the club and her husband David is also a valued time keeper and track official.   A number of Colchester Harriers under 20 track athletes, opened up their indoor season, at the South of England Indoor Athletics Championships, held at Lee Valley over the weekend of 13th & 14 January. Notable performances were produced, in a highly competitive and hard-fought weekend of high quality athletics. In a close competition Olivia Simon again showed her huge potential by winning the U15 pole vault gold medal at the Southern Indoor Championships, at Lee Valley indoor centre Olivia's clearance of 2.5m was just short of her P.B of 2.6m and was equalled by the silver medallist. Men take team silvers in muddy conditions Colchester Harriers were runners up yet again at the Senior men's cross Country Championships held over a tough muddy 7.5 mile course at Great Notley Country park. With 9 of the team pulling out on the day due to flu and another 4 with injuries medals looked unlikely in Essex’s best quality race of the season. The annual Boxing Day Runners v Cyclists clash over Friday Woods drew a record field of nearly 200 competitors. It was once again a triumph for the classy cyclists who took advantage of the dry conditions packing the top 13 positions before the first runner came home to maintain the Markham Cup for the 17th consecutive time, scoring 21 points to the runners 147 (lowest score wins). Harriers double team gold spectacular Colchester harriers has a spectacular run of results at the Veteran XC championships held at Writtle College winning gold team in both veteran men 40 and 50 Championships and bronze team in the Veteran ladies event.
