Colchester Sports Awards

Recognising the tremendous achievement of Colchester’s amateur sportsmen and women, the 2016 Colchester Sports Awards were presented last night (21 November) at Western Homes Stadium.

Colchester Harriers came away with four awards including a certificate of commendation.

In the U18 category for Rebecca Jeggo (16) for achievement in Sprinting. Rebecca came away as double Essex silver medallist at Essex County Champs and upgraded that to Gold at Essex Schools, she is double champion at Eastern County Champs and represented Essex at English Schools in 200m.

Philippa Davenhall (18) was overall winner of the U18 Female Sports Personality for her continued impressive form in the field of Throws, representing Essex at English Schools where she claimed a bronze medal in Hammer. She was also Essex County Champion in Shot Put, Discus and Hammer, Eastern Counties Champion in Hammer. She is ranked 5th in the UK in 4K Hammer.

For the second year running Male Sports Personality of the Year was presented to Olympian Racewalker Dominic King, who ended the year ranked 2nd in the UK all time rankings in 50k walk having achieved a second Team GB vest at this years Rio Olympics. He has already achieved entry  qualification  time for next years World Championship at the Olympic Park Stratford.

Triathlete Melissa Dowell  once again claiming the top Female Sports Personality of the Year, this year Melissa travelled to Oklahoma to represent GB in the ITU World Long Distance Triathlon Age Group Championships claiming Gold in the 50 – 54 Age Group.
