New record for West Colchester Harriers Pete West got the weekend off to a good start by setting a new 50-54 record at the Maldon Promenade park run in 18-36 in windy conditions, Hannah Watson was first lady home in a personal best of 20-48. Mussett has great run in terrible conditions The Kings Lyn 10km is one of the highest quality races on the calendar. Colchester Harriers Adrian Musset has run the event many times and is always up with the leading pack. This year strong winds and heavy rain dampened the finishing times but Mussett still managed to produce a great race coming home 3rd overall and first veteran in 32-28. Jon Nears also was on top form clocking 34-42 16th overall and was third veteran over 40. Belfast marathon McMillan busts 3 hours. Colchester harriers Ged McMillan finally got over his injuries and illnesses to clock a superb 2-53 at the Belfast marathon a tough affair with a 13 mile climb from the city. This was McMillans first sub 3 marathon. Heritage Half marathon Smalls takes his chance Allen Smalls was the surprise winner of the Heritage off road half marathon held from Thorpeness clocking 1.22. Smalls near to his best The London Marathon saw a fantastic run by Colchester harriers long distance specialist Allen Smalls , the 47 year old clocked a staggering 2-36-17 to finish 176th overall and 8th veteran. Smalls also had the pleasure of being in the group running with Paula Ratcliffe in her last competitive race, Smalls ran just ahead of her most of the way and was there to clap her through the line at the finish, Smalls time was only 3 minutes short of his best ever. Colchester: Watson has Castle win Hannah Watson although in the 11-14 age group was the overall first lady at The Colchester Castle 5km clocking 20-51, Mark Harrod was runner up in 17-54 a week after running a sub 3 hour marathon at Brighton. Youngsters Ethan Thrower and Lee Hykel both stopped the clock in 18-28 for 3rd and 4th positions. Colchester Harriers had a fantastic start to the season at the first Southern Athletic league that was held at Colchester. After a closely fought battle during the afternoon, the hosts finally achieved a victory by the narrowest of margins, one point. Great Results by Harriers Colchester Harriers road runners competed in a mixture of events at the weekend with great success. Anita Mussett started the ball rolling with a fine personal best by 14 minutes to complete the iconic Manchester marathon in a superb 3-39. Jon Nears then leapt to victory in the inaugural Bungay 10km , for over 40 veteran Nears it was a superb moment winning his first ever road race and of course taking the veterans prize as well in a time of 35-32. Harrod runs personal best The Brighton marathon is a popular race, although strong winds can often make it a tough event. This years race had its fair share making the coastal miles hard work. Mark Harrod bust 3 hours for the first time clocking 2-55-39 for 47th place overall and 15th Veteran over 40 in a field of 13,000. Chris Manby did well to run 3-08 after not being at his best over the last couple of weeks leading to the Marathon, Manby was well up on time at the half way point to beat the 3 hour barrier, but the conditions in the second half of the race took their toll. Great run by Smalls Colchester Harriers Allen Smalls is more well known for his distance racing but even over the shorter distances is a hard man to beat. Smalls was runner up at the Sudbury 5 mile race in a great time of 28-13 and was first veteran over 40. Smalls was only beaten by one of the top Essex Runners Ryan Prout. Jon Nears is getting faster every race and clocked 28-28 for 5th place. Recent Park Run round up Barraclough and Shewbridge win Anniversary race The second anniversary race of The Castle Park Run saw 283 runners out on a cold spring morning. Harriers celebrated by supplying the mens and ladies winners in Anthony Barraclough 17-41 and Laura Shewbridge 20-14.
