Halstead Marathon
Harriers men dominate
Colchester Harriers men dominated the Halstead Marathon over the new course which if anything had an extra hill to add to the already tough 26.2 miles of Essex Countryside, the weather got hotter as the morning went on, but it could not stop Colchester Harriers Chris Sellens becoming Essex Champion clocking an amazing 2-37-56 and outpacing a Spanish runner in the last couple of miles to finish strongly, with the Spaniard not counting in the Essex Championship 2nd place went to the talented Carwyn Jones 2-43-46 who knocked a huge 16 minutes off his personal best, 3rd spot only 7 seconds behind Jones in 2-44-53 was Allen Smalls who had run 2-36 at London only two weeks ago. Smalls took the Essex senior bronze medal, the Essex veteran gold, and along with Jones and Sellens the team golds, a fine day for the green vests . Chris Manby continued his long distance training with a fine run of 3-14-45, while Malcolm Statham continued his quest for 200 Marathons with another good race.
