It was mixed weekend of results for Colchetser Harriers with a successful Colchester 15 being staged, but disappointment in the Essex Cross Country relays where the course signage presented problems to many of the teams and cost Harriers senior and mixed team medals on the day. The Colchester 15 mile road race was held by the Harriers for the first time after its cancellation in March due to the snowy weather, and this time was greeted with a warm sunny day. Over 50 men give Harriers first ever Southern team road medals

The Southern Road Relays at Crystal palace are a very high class affair with most of the top runners from the region competing over the 6.5km course. Colchester Harriers for the first time, thanks to coach Richard Pickering, had teams in each of the three men’s categories and came up trumps in the over 50 competition. It was a busy end to the season for Colchester Harriers Joy Ogunleye and Rebecca Jeggo. On Saturday both had an amazing experience competing at the Great North City Games. The event was held on a purpose-built track at the iconic Gateshead quayside. This included some of the top athletes from the UK as well as the Diamond league circuit, with whom Joy and Rebecca stayed at the same hotel as on the Friday.  They enjoyed dinner with GB sprinter Richard Kilty, before meeting others including Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford. South of England Intercounty championships

5 of Colchester Harriers athletes were selected to represent Essex at the southern intercounty championships at a sunny Horspath oxford on Saturday U20 Joy Ogunleye, U20 Rebecca Jeggo, U20 Jake Young, U15 Sam Shippey. and U15  Olivia Simon And what a day it was for Sam Shippey and Rebecca Jeggo. Sam comfortably won his 300m heat in 37.88 and then took maximum points for Essex in the final winning in 36.89 just outside his PB Not to be out done Rebecca Jeggo went in the 200m again comfortably winning her heat jogging across the line in 25.65. Junior members of CHAC can be justly proud of themselves having reached the Plate Final of the Eastern Young Athletics League for the first time ever. Once again defying the hot conditions, the team travelled to Stevenage on Sunday 2 September to compete against five other teams from across the region to decide 7th to 12th position placings. Smalls Is Tip Top

Allen Smalls had another great run in his warm up for the 50 mile Dolgellau Ultra at the end of August. Smalls came runner up at the Hatfield Forest Half Marathon and first veteran over 50. David Wright at last put his injuries behind him to be the first over 60 in 32nd place. Fay Smalls also ran well in the severe conditions. Ed Mitchell led the Harriers contingent at the Ipswich Twilight 10km, clocking 34-05, Chris Manby ran well in 39-53, as did Keith Marley 39-36,then came Craig Mitchell 40-50, and Rebecca Cooke.
