The first Essex League Cross Country event of the season got underway at Hockley on Saturday Colchester Harriers athletes had to dig deep in cold conditions to record a number of respectable results, in the Men’s 8.8k  the in-form Ed Mitchel showed his mental toughness with a well placed 5th place, 17 yr old Ermeas Afewerki in his first Senior race found the course challenging to finish a fine 54th, good support came from Michael Smith 67th; Gavin Scanlon 69th with determined runs from Paul Spowage V50  84th, Peter West V50  92nd, Chris Manby 109th and Andrew Taczynski 140th.   The... read more

Harriers Hammer throwers Rob Earle, and recent signing Megan Larkins, had a successful weekend at the annual British Hammer Circle Reunion Open in Hull over 13th & 14th October.   This was an event which featured many top ranked athletes from the UK, including 2018 Commonwealth champion, and top three ranked on the world lists, Nick Miller.   For the Harriers, Megan set new figures for a PB and club record In the Weight Throw [16.53] and  finished an excellent second among a high-quality Hammer field with a best throw of 54.55m. Mitchell continues cracking form

Wix 5 Colchester Harriers Ed Mitchell is in cracking form, a week after winning the Essex 10 mile Championship, Mitchell ran a superb 5 mile Essex Championship at Wix to become County Champion and take the gold medal in in 26m 13s.  Danny Millward is only a youngster but ran very well in the elite field to clock 28m 19s for 15th place, Colin Ridley was also County Champion taking the over 50 medal in 28m 56s. Under 15 girls victorious at Bourne Park

The club entered Sunday's Suffolk junior cross country relays at Bourne Park, Ipswich for the first time with thirteen young Harriers competing in the event. The under 15 girls A team of Madeleine Claydon, Milly Presland and Jess Longstaff all ran superbly to win the gold medals in the 3 x 3k race in 37m 25s, almost seven minutes ahead of the second team from Beccles and Bungay Harriers. Madeleine ran a storming first leg clocking 12m 08s, handing over to Milly with a comfortable lead of 2m 44s. The Eastern Xc Championship is at Chantry Park Ipswich on Saturday 17 November, senior men and veteran men 45-55 12km , ladies , vet ladies  and vet men 60 6km, due to the cost of entries £9 per person it is not viable for the club to enter 70 runners as was the case last year , so this year if you wish to run you must enter individually on a paper form in the Eastern athletic Association website ( full details are there )  or you can pay me £9 and I will place an entry in on the 27th October as the closing date is 2nd November , under 17’s and below are best to see their team managers... read more
