Hammer Throwers Shine in Hull
Harriers Hammer throwers Rob Earle, and recent signing Megan Larkins, had a successful weekend at the annual British Hammer Circle Reunion Open in Hull over 13th & 14th October.
This was an event which featured many top ranked athletes from the UK, including 2018 Commonwealth champion, and top three ranked on the world lists, Nick Miller.
For the Harriers, Megan set new figures for a PB and club record In the Weight Throw [16.53] and finished an excellent second among a high-quality Hammer field with a best throw of 54.55m. Megan brings a wealth of experience to the club and is current number three in the UK under 23 rankings and 14th overall in the UK, with a PB of 57.90m.
Rob [Masters 55] was able to finish first among all masters age groups in the Hammer with 51.67m. And set a new UK age 58 best with the senior weight Hammer [45.29]. Rob was also awarded the Bard Trophy as Masters Thrower of the year. He has enjoyed an impressive forty-two consecutive seasons in the UK top 60 (1977 – 2018) with forty of those seasons throwing in excess of 50m (1978 – 2017) creating two new national records.
In addition to Megan, the club have also recently acquired the skills of sister Josephine, brother Wyatt who will be in demand come next track and field season for Harriers. Mum, Denise, a fully qualified Athletics Coach, has also transferred to the green vests and adds to Harrrier’s small but very good clutch of specialist throws coaches. .
Adding to the good news, top six ranked Under 20 Billy Praim-Singh has moved across from Shaftesbury Barnet to join the Harriers and will sure to be a valuable asset to the SAL team next season.
