South of England Intercounty championships

5 of Colchester Harriers athletes were selected to represent Essex at the southern intercounty championships at a sunny Horspath oxford on Saturday U20 Joy Ogunleye, U20 Rebecca Jeggo, U20 Jake Young, U15 Sam Shippey. and U15  Olivia Simon

And what a day it was for Sam Shippey and Rebecca Jeggo. Sam comfortably won his 300m heat in 37.88 and then took maximum points for Essex in the final winning in 36.89 just outside his PB

Not to be out done Rebecca Jeggo went in the 200m again comfortably winning her heat jogging across the line in 25.65. Rebecca lined up in the final with the English schools bronze medal winner drawn just behind her. Rebecca ran a magnificent bend leading into the home straight, she pulled away further for an emphatic victory in a new PB time 24.73.

Joy Ogunleye lined up in the 100m heats finishing 2nd in 12.7 into a strong headwind. In the final Joy ran well to finish a creditable 3rd in 12.37 again into a strong headwind.

Olivia Simon competed in the hammer In a strong field of 12 Olivia competed well to fish 7th with a throw of 35.10

Finally Jake Young signed off his first season as a 400m runner with comfortable 3rd place in his heat in 50.49 and then followed up in the final .with his 2nd fastest time ever finishing 4th in 50.04.

This was a strong competition for the Harriers  with athletes from 16 counties competing .
