Harriers Hold on to Top Spot

70th Anniversary

British Hammer Circle Reunion Harriers Wyatt Larkins had a blistering autumnal weekend at the Costello Stadium in Hull over the 15th-16th of October to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the reunion. Wyatt was placed third overall in both the under Seventeen Hammer and Weight throw, achieving PB's in each discipline. In Larkins first Hammer competition, he produced a distance of 46.38m, which represented an increase from 45.61m. Harriers Enjoy Road Success

It was another successful weekend for Colchester Harriers’ athletes, following up their cross-country triumph the previous week with strong performances at the two big road races to take place in the region. Laura Shewbridge was first woman home at the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon, clocking 1:29:15 to go under 90 minutes for the first time in five years as she finished more than two minutes clear of her closest rival.  Jay Waite ran a personal best (PB) 1:21:33 to finish ninth overall and first V50, Wayne Cook was second V50 in 1:23:59, Jake Darkins ran 1:24:46 (PB) on his debut... read more

Harriers On Top at One Tree Hill

Colchester Harriers kicked of the Essex League cross-country season is style with a superb all round team effort on a challenging course at One Tree Hill, Basildon. The senior women lead the way thanks to all six of their runners featuring in the top twenty-five.  Victoria Primmer, fresh from success at the London Marathon led the way to finish eighth and was well backed up by Emma Burgess (14th), Tracy English (15th), Margaret Deasy (19th, 1st V55), Ellie Cumner (24th) and Denise Morley (25th – 1st V50) as the team saw off Havering, Southend and Thurrock to finish the day sitting on... read more

Harriers Out in Force at Tiptree

Colchester Harriers enjoyed a successful day at the Tiptree 10 mile road race, winning the women’s team trophy as well as posting a number of impressive individual performances. The green vests secured the women’s title with 3 finishers in the top 5 led by Lydia Callan, who took a superb third place on her 10 mile debut, clocking 1:07:41 after a fast finish up the final hill.  Callan was closely followed home by Justine Sheekey who finished fourth in 1:08:26 and Laura Shewbridge who crossed the line in 1:08:46 to take the FV40 trophy and fifth place overall.  Other... read more

Harriers Girls Star in London

Colchester Harriers athletes had a good day at this year’s TCS London Marathon, with the women in particular putting in some fine performances.  In form Victoria Primmer led the way, running a superbly paced Personal Best (PB) 3:02:08 in what was only her third marathon to cross the line just outside the top 100 women finishers on the day.  Clubmate Heidi Hogan-Steele, also running her third 26.2 miler, was not far behind, coming home in 3:08:50 despite fading slightly in the second half of the race.  Tina Southgate, coming back from illness and injury, ran an encouraging 4:05:42 whilst... read more

Harriers Girls Win Essex Cross Country Relays

Colchester Harriers crack Under 15 Girls team lead the way at the Essex County Cross Country Relay Championships, storming home at the season’s first major cross-country meeting to take the gold medal by a margin of over a minute. Lyla Belshaw got the trio off to a flying start, running 12:08 for her leg, Lily Tyler then extended the team’s lead with her run of 13:21 before Isla Widdowson saw the team home with a fast finishing 12:40. CHAC's AGM will be held on Thursday 13 October at 7.30pm in the Pegasus Clubhouse, North Circular Road. Harriers Women Clinch County Trophy

Colchester Harriers’ women’s team put on another impressive show of strength to come home from the Essex Half Marathon championships at Pleshey with gold and silver team medals so wrapping up the series trophy for the first time in the club’s history.  In what has been a truly golden season on the roads for Colchester’s women, the team took gold medals in five of the six races in the series, also collecting 3 silvers and a bronze to finish well clear of closest rivals, Springfield Striders. Lyla Belshaw eased herself  through to the final of the U15 girls 1500m at the England Athletics Age group Champs at Bedford on Saturday 27 August, in a race which showed how she has developed her tactics. Competing in the first of two semi finals she settled into the front of a close pack where a steady pace saw her sit on the shoulder of the leader for most of the first half of the  race with  little to choose between anyone.
