Colchester Harriers' athletes made the most of excellent conditions at the Great Bentley Half Marathon to produce a string of personal best (PB) performances.  Now firmly established as the fastest local 13.1 miler, the race attracted a top-quality field who were treated to calm, sunny conditions very different to the squally rain faced by competitors last year. Colchester Harriers’ emerging stars enjoyed a memorable day at the South of England Cross-Country Championships at Beckenham Park Place, with both Lyla Belshaw and Lizzie Wellsted crowned as Champions in their respective age groups. At a recent track and field sub-committee meeting, subsequently backed up by the main committee, we have decided to revert to using the main track entrance; the one on Circular Road North. There are several reasons for this change. Firstly, it allows all athletes to meet under the cover of the canopies of the clubhouse and changing rooms. This allows athletes to leave their bags in a dry, reasonably secure area. It also allows our training registration process to be carried in a dry area. Colchester Harriers’ athletes lit up a grey, blustery day at the Essex Cross-Country Championships at Basildon’s Gloucester Park, with their female athletes in particular shining. The senior women’s team led the way, retaining their County Champions title to take the Ron Merrie Cup back to Colchester for the second successive year.  In what was an outstanding all-round team effort for the green vests, debutant Roanna Vickers was first home for the club in fourth place, closely followed by Lydia Callan in sixth - both girls earning call ups to represent Essex at the national... read more

Colchester Harriers’ up and coming cross-country star Lydia Callan continued her brilliant start to the season with another top-quality performance on her Essex debut in the South of England Inter-counties championships at Horspath in Oxford.  The twenty-three year old Wivenhoe based runner looked very at home in what was a high class field, finishing in thirteenth place in an exciting blanket finish in which only six seconds separated positions eight through sixteen, so helping her county to second place in the team event. Colchester Harriers veteran athletes dusted down their spikes to taste success at this year’s Essex Cross Country Vets Championships in Writtle University College. Leading the way, Adrian Mussett showed the field a clean pair of heels in the first race of the day, for men aged 50 upwards, coming home in first place by more than two minutes and in the process winning the MV50 individual gold medal.  Team-mate Colin Ridley also ran a strong race to finish 16th overall and win the MV60 gold medal and with Chris Stevenson (34th), Will Haining (84th) and supervet Arthur Whiston (121st)... read more

Colchester Harriers women continued their recent series of team victories with a winning performance at the Hadleigh 5 in Suffolk.  Ella Jeffries ran 37:01 to finish second female overall and she was backed up by fine runs from Fran Norris (38:32 – 1st FV60), Kate Gibson (38:48 – 3rd FV50) and Louise Yates (42:09) as Colchester beat home team Hadleigh Hares into second place by over 4 minutes.
