U20s Southern Championships
Phillipa Davenall, Rebecca Jeggo and Charlie Dobson represented the Harriers at the Southern Outdoor Age Group Championships on Sunday 11 June.
Thanks to wide-ranging improvements that have been, and are still being carried out, the championships were able to return to the iconic Crystal Palace. Work continues on repairing and cleaning the track itself, and on much of the infrastructure.
The blustery conditions experienced by the younger athletes at Chelmsford the day before had calmed slightly, but still provided enough challenge with readings up to -3.6, reducing the opportunity of achieving quick times.
Continuing to break Club records and first to compete on Sunday was Hammer thrower Davenhall, who secured a stunning new PB, adding just under a meter onto her previous best to finish the clear winner with a throw of 56.69m.
In the U20 men’s 100m Charlie Dobson qualified through to the final and despite nerve wracking false start then a second hesitant start, where he was trailing, he charged his way through to claim an excellent bronze medal in a time of 11.12s (-3.6w).
Rebecca Jeggo faced tough competition in her U20 women’s 100m and despite a fast heat into a strong head wind, which almost knocked her out of her lane, she was denied a place in the final, missing out by just one tenth of a second.
