Essex Schools Championships – Melbourne Park – Chelmsford

Colchester Harriers athletes were again out in force mostly competing for the North East Essex team at the Essex Schools championships in Chelmsford on Saturday. There were some fantastic performances in some extremely challenging conditions with the sprinters running into a fierce headwind.

Callum McKay put his injury hit season well and truly behind him to storm through in the intermediate boys 100m to take the gold in 11.7 seconds into a -4.1 headwind

Young sprinter Graig Anya Joseph is going from strength to strength and also took gold in the junior boys 100m with a commanding run clocking 11.67 into a -3.5 headwind

Thierry Ajala took a fantastic silver medal in the Inter boys 400m just pipping his club mate Jed Assemota who took the bronze with a Massive PB 51.37

Danny Millward again showed his immense potential with a gutsy performance taking Bronze in the Inter boys 3000m in what was a fantastic finish from Danny.

Megan Stevans had a good day in the Inter Girls 100m finishing strongly in her heat to clinch a place in the final where she finished a creditable 6th in 13.8 into a -3.7 headwind.

Aliyah Soames threw 25m in the junior girl’s javelin

Kayleigh Hale recently joined Colchester Harriers from Chelmsford threw an impressive 26m in the junior girl’s javelin. Also new to Harriers is Kausara Ayoola in only the second time she has ever competed ran herself into the junior girls 200m final finishing 6th in an impressive 27.99 into a -2.9 headwind.

Lauren Strutt placed 6th in the Inter girls long jump jumping 4.79 a new PB by 22cm.

Katie rice was again very impressive in the girls 80m hurdles running a PB 13.69 finishing just outside the medals into a strong headwind.

Millie Pressland was 5th in the junior girls 1500m in 5:08.00

Savannah Harrison just missed out on the final in the inter girls 300m running 46.2

Max Caulfield also just missed out on the medals despite a strong finish finishing in 4th place in the inter boys 1500m

Madeleine Claydon also competed in the junior girls high jump equalling her PB 1m30.
