Essex 20 Road Championships
A big thank you to all Club Members who braved the wind and rain on Sunday 5th March and stood out on the road for four hours marshalling the Essex 20 race. The three cyclists who led the runners around the course faced head winds, driving rain and suffering two punctures. Afterwards they were suffering from the effects of the elements and took some time to recover. Bacon rolls and hot tea aided their recovery.
Special thanks to Dave Wright who organised the marshals, Dave Lacy and John Carter who have for many years, signed the course and acted as race sweeper following two very slow ladies and picking up all signage and any dropped litter they came across. They were on the course from 7am until 2 30pm
Margaret and her ladies provided tea and coffee to all runners free of charge and sold bacon and cheese rolls. Marshals and Officials enjoyed hot drinks and refreshments. Many of these ladies are not known to our members but they have supported Colchester Harriers for many years and have raised valuable funds.
Once again my most sincere thanks to Langham Parish Council, Sue Armstrong Manager of the Langham Community Centre, Community shop for all their support and lastly but not least Langham Scouts for their work in setting up and supervision of the carpark and manning a water stop at the Hall.
Over the years I have befriended many residents of the village , without their consent an event like this would not take place.
I have today receive thank you emails from Dave Staines, Chair of Essex Association Committee and Gary Chandler, County Treasurer, for a good job done.
Yesterday even taking into account the weather, running in my view was the easy option. Well done to everyone who took part. A successful day.
