Great run by Smalls
Colchester Harriers Allen Smalls is more well known for his distance racing but even over the shorter distances is a hard man to beat. Smalls was runner up at the Sudbury 5 mile race in a great time of 28-13 and was first veteran over 40. Smalls was only beaten by one of the top Essex Runners Ryan Prout. Jon Nears is getting faster every race and clocked 28-28 for 5th place. Over 50 Harrier Colin Ridley won his age group in 29-32 ( 9th) and this gave the trio of Smalls , Near, and Ridley the team prize. Arthur Whiston won the over 60 age group in 33-27, while marie Shirley was pipped by a second for the first lady prize and ran a fine 31-33. Other Harriers times were Pete West 30-50, Paul preston 30-56, Martyn Clarke 32-03, Russell Goodridge 32-40, Simon Smith 33-48, Debbie Cattermole 34-12 and 1st veteran over 50, and Dan Steptoe-Thompson 52-48.
