Successful Second Mini Meet
Almost forty youngsters took on the challenge of a Quad Kids style competition on Saturday 24th March as an informal season opener.
Despite a slight chill in the air and a couple of irritating showers, the morning was a huge success for all concerned. Ages of competitors ranged from 10 to 16 and included some of those who have joined the club’s Sunday Development squad over the last few months or who are still on the waiting list. Each athlete was able to compete two heats of 60m, three rounds of Long Jump and Ball Throw as well as a 600m. All athletes should be proud of their achievements, with some pretty impressive results showing that Harriers has a healthy crop of up and coming competitors to add to its ranks.
The experience was enhanced by having Wendy Dunsford as the official starter, who talked through her role at competitions and answered any questions the athletes had. Other officials for the day were Paul HIcks, Paul Strutt, Hazel Smith, Dave Smith as well as coaches, committee members and parents who were all able to help our young green vests learn what will happen when they get to compete at the EYAL for the first time in a few weeks time.
Harriers Youth Ambassadors Rebecca Jeggo, Katie Rice, Hannah Rodgers, Issy Minder, Hollie Spellar, Ella Gray and Charlie Walder were on hand to lead the athletes through a warm up and then accompanied them round each event before presenting medals at the end of the meet.
A date for the next in-house competition is already being discussed.
