A very wet and cold track at Peterborough saw Nene Valley Harriers host the opening SAL League match for 2018. It was a spirited Colchester team performance with many athletes making there Harriers debut. A massive thanks to all the officials and helpers that braved the dismal weather.

ON THE TRACK FOR THE WOMEN

the female sprinters were in fine form in the 100m with Joy Ogunleye taking the A string race in 12.1 and Caitlin O’Reilly following up with a win in the B string race clocking 12.4.In the 200m Caitlin finished 4th in 27.00 in the A string and Megan Stevens stepping up into the B string finished in 2nd place in 28.1

In the 400m Stacy Eyers had a tough race as she doubled in the 400m/800m finishing 4th in 62.8 in the B string Ebba Paterson made her debut for the senior team finishing 4th in 68.2 a PB

Stacy Eyers ran a fine 800 finishing 3rd in 2:23.4 in the B race Helen Taczynski on her Southern league debut came in 3rd in 2:35.6 The 1500M saw Ellie Cumner come in 4th in 5:22.8 a new PB for her and Helen Taczynski in the B race finished 4th in 5:42.2.

In the 3000m Lucy Map ran a fine race taking 3rd place in 11:27.8 and Ellie Cumner ran another PB to finish 2nd in the B race in 11:37.9.

Nicola Martell-Smith proved a fine competitor in the 100M hurdles finishing a fine 2nd in a time of 16.5 in the B race Helen Taczynski scored good points coming third in 22.4

In the 400m Hurdles Nicola Martell – Smith completely dominated the race winning comfortably in 68.8 and Katie Rice on her first attempt at the 400m hurdlesran a terrific race to win the B race in 82.1 a new PB for her.

Lucy Mapp showed she is in really good form coming a fine 2nd in the 2000m SC in 8:05.8 Nicola Martell Smith made her steeple chase debut in the b race and showed real character to also finish 2nd in a new PB time of 9:02.2.

Colchester finished a fine 2nd in the 4x100m relay Megan Stevens, Joy Ogunleye, Katie Rice and Caitlin O’Reilly clocked 52.4

4×400 a very young and inexperienced team finished 4th in4.33.1 Stacy Eyers Savannah Harrison Ebba Patterson and Jennifer

 

 

 

 

IN THE FIELD

In the high jump Daisy Hilson made her Harriers southern league debut and finished 2nd clearing 1.45m in the B competition Eliza Betts came in 3rd in clearing 1.30

In the Pole vault Lucy Mapp cleared 2.10 to finish 3rd and Caitlin Reilly stepped up and scored valuable points finishing 3rd clearing 1.10

Jade Morgan won the A string Long Jump and the A string Triple jump jumping 5.11 and 11.00. Eliza Betts backed up Jades tremendous performance by taking the B String Long Jump with 4.82. Savannah Harrison finished 3rd in the B string triple jump in 8.90

Philippa Davenall traveled down from university to compete and duly won the Hammer in 50.08 she was also 3rd in the A string discuss and 3rd in the A string Shot Aliyah Soames on her senior debut put a real creditable performance gaining a PB in the shot finishing 4th in 6.64. She was 4th in the hammer with another PB 18.41 and in her main event the Javelin B string Aliyah managed a 2nd place and another PB ov 24.13. Jade Morgan was 3rd in the A string Javelin in 28.08 and Lucy Map 4th in the B string Discus 15.53

ON THE TRACK FOR THE MEN

Callum McKay opened up his season coming 3rd in the 100m A race in a time of 11.2 Joe Wilkin finished 2nd in the B race in 11.5

Jake Young ran the A string 200m finishing well in 3rd with a PB of 23.00. Callum Mckay finished 3rd in the B race in 23.6

Jake Young then ran well in the 400m to take top spot in 51.00. Thomas Palmer in his southern league debut for the Harriers fought hard to finish in a respectable 2nd in 55.4

In the 800m Paul Clifford ran a sensible race and then finished strongly to win in a time of 1:57.00. Michael Major backed him up well in the B race gaining 2nd place in 2:00.5

In the 1500m Oscar Dawson ran hard to finish 4th in the a race in 4:25.1 while Thomas Palmer won his B race in a time of 4:27.6

In the race of the day Ramadam Osman went in the 5000m he ran a fantastic race being tracked all the way by the Belgrave athlete Ram took off with 200 to go and it was neck and neck all the way when the Belgrave athlete just got the better of him in the final 10M Ramadam got a valiant 2nd place and a new PB of 15:31.3. In the B race Chris Sellens ran his usual steady race coming in 2nd in16:39.8

In the mens 100MH Matt Rose ran 16.77 to come in 3rd and Rob Smith ran 19.5 to win the B race

In the 400mH A race Rob Smith showed his good form coming 4th in 61.9 While Matt Rose found it tough on the inside lane managing a hard 2nd in the B race in 63.3

In the 2000m SC Ben Halls ran a fantastic race to finish 2nd in 7:04.8 smashing his PB in the process by 8 seconds And Michael Smith in the B race won in 7:09.9 taking an incredible 12 seconds off of his previous best

4 x 100 Relay saw Daniel Jones, Joe wilkin, Joseph Clarke and Callum McKay take 2nd in 46.1

4 x 400 Relay saw a fantastic race taking shape between Colchester and Nene valley but a mistake in the changeover in the 2nd to 3rd leg left Jake Young with just too much to do to overhaul the Nene valley athlete Rob Smith, Paul Clifford Oscar Dawson and Jake Young finished 2nd in 3:32.9

 

In the Field

Joe Wilkin competed well in the high jump coming 3rd with 1.55 Jake Young was also 3rd in 1.45

In The pole vault Harriers stalwart Matt Rose cleared 3.00m to finish a fine 3rd

In the Long jump Daniel Jones jumped 4 M to finish 4th

In the Triple Jump Matt Rose leaped to a fine 11.01 to finish 3rd whilst youngster Joseph Clarke in his senior debut and first time triple jump finished 2nd in 9.71 a fine PB

Paul Cooper won the Javelin with a throw of 49.77 with Matt Rose taking 4th in the B string throwing 25.56

They both then took part in the Hammer Paul Cooper coming 4th in the A string with a throw of 24.95 and Matt Rose taking 2nd in the B string throwing 20.46

Paul Cooper was also 3rd in the Shot in 10.60, Paul Clifford took 4th in the B Shot in 8.26

Matt Rose took 4th in the Discus 1n 26.64 With Paul Clifford again taking 4th in the B string in 22.21
