There were some fantastic and heroic performances in Colchester Harriers 2nd southern league meeting at Norwich. It was a hard fought battle throughout the day for 2nd place position with Windsor just getting it by 9 points. There were plenty of PBs and a magnificent club record on the day.

Highlights below;

U17 Ermeas Afewerki on his debut for Colchester Harriers in the Southern league ran a fantastic 1500m he stayed with the fast pace and was still able to produce a scorching last 120m to finish 3rd behind older athletes. He smashed his previous best by 5.5 seconds and smashed the previous club record by 7.5 seconds with a time of 4:08.2

Rebecca Jeggo continued her fine start to the season by dominating the Woman’s 100 &200m winning both in 12.0 and 24.6. The 100m is the quickest time ever run by a female harrier athlete and a new U20 club record . Her 200m time of 24.6 is the fastest time by a female athlete in 10 years and also a new under 20 club record. And to wrap up a fine days work Rebecca was awarded woman of the match.

Sarah Kelley competed for Colchester Harriers for the first time after her transfer. her main event is pole vault where she jumped 2.24 to finish 2nd. Sarah then competed in the triple jump jumping 9.64, 100m hurdles 20.1 and high Jump 1.38, a great asset to Harriers senior team

Other PBs on the day;

Maya ran a great 200 finishing strongly in a new best of 26.9.

Lucy Mapp continued her rich vein of form with a PB in the 5000m in 19:27.9 Lucy also gained a PB in the 1500 SC in 5:55.7. Then moving onto the Discus Lucy threw another PB 17.9. Lucy also won the B string Pole vault in 2.15 and 3rd in the B string 400mH. 5 events in all from this amazing athlete.

 

Nicola Hilson also ran a PB in the B string 5000m in 21:50.0

Aliyah Soames threw the shot out to a new PB of 7.22m gaining a valuable 2nd place in the A string she gained 2nd in the A javelin and 3rd in the B Hammer.

In t mens 100m Daniel Jones ran yet another PB 11.3 finishing 3rd in the A string He also ran 23.1 for 3rd in the B string 200m

Jake Young won the mens 400m in 50.8 and then went on to run a fine PB in the 200m claiming 3rd spot in 22.7.

Nate Filer ran the 3000m coming in 3rd in a PB time of 9:39.4 he also stepped in to the 1500m at the last minute and claimed another PB 4:35.4

Joe Wilkin continued making good progress in the High jump jumping a new PB 1.68.

Joseph Clarke showed fantastic form in the triple jump a new event for him smashing his previous best with a leap of 10.83

Paul Cooper threw a new PB in the hammer taking 3rd spot with a throw of 25.75

Jade Morgan won the Long jump 4.96 2nd in the triple jump 10.89 and 2nd in the 100mH

There were some other heroic performances with Matt Rose taking on 5 events pole vault 3rd Discus 3rd triple jump 3rd 110H 2nd 16.5 400mH 2nd61.5

Stacy Eyers was 3rd in the 400m 2nd in the 800m 2nd in the 1500m and ran a leg in the 4x400m

Helem Bloomfield ran the 400mH, 3rd 1500m sc 3rd, and 1500m 2nd 4 x 400 relay leg

Without the efforts and versatility of these athletes Colchester Harriers would not be in the 1st division of the Southern league. “Thank you”
