Inter-Counties Cross Country – Birmingham
Exceptional runs by Harriers
Colchester Harriers supplied 6 runners for Essex at the Inter Counties XC Championships held at Birmingham. This is where the cream of the runners from each county complete and the standard is exceptional. The Harriers contingent all ran with pride and had good finishing positions for the red vests of Essex.
In the men’s race Angus Holford was 74th, Carwyn Jones 117th, and an injured Chris Sellens 148th
In the women’s race it was Sarah Stradling 51st and an invigorated Laura Shewbridge 102nd.
And in the U13 boys race Ziggy Lambton finished 60th (and 2nd Essex runner) in a field of over 300 runners

English Schools XC – Nottingham
The English schools teams selection is one year out of phase from the standard U13, U15 and U17 age groups so gives an opportunity for the runners normally in the first year of their age group to represent their counties at a national level. Runners are selected over three races and, just like the inter-counties race, the level of competition is exceptionally high.
Colchester Harriers had three runners representing Essex.
In the junior boys race Danny Millward had an exception run finishing 51st overall and first Essex boy home. In the same race Max Caulfield finished 139th (5th Essex) out of a field of over 300 runners
In the intermediate girls race Hannah Watson ran well for a strong Essex team and finished 116th out of a field of 344 runners. This was a particularly impressive performance as Hannah will stay in this age group next year so was one of the younger runners to compete
