Eastern Multi-Events Championships

It was a bright and sunny late summer day at Peterborough and proved to be perfect conditions for PBs. Four of the club’s young athletes were in action

U15 Girls pentathlon

Charlotte Hoskyns and Rachel Hoddell in their first pentathlons along with Lauren Strutt all competed in the penthalon and made the best of the conditions with a number of great performances and PBs

Charlotte put in excellent performances in all five events, scoring 2,137 points in her first combined events competition to secure the silver medal in the Suffolk Championship.

The competition started with the long jump where Charlotte leapt out to 4.50m in the third and final round, a personal best by 5cm.  Lauren and Rachel’s best jumps were measured at 4.22m and 3.54m respectively.

The girls then moved on to the 75m hurdles where Lauren and Rachel ran in the first heat.  Lauren stopped the clock at 15.49s, with Rachel not too far behind with a time of 15.70s.  In the third heat Charlotte produced another personal best performance crossing the line in 13.49s, the 521 points moving her score on to 949 points.

Lauren was the star of the shot competition, her best effort measured at 6.84m a personal best by 69cm.  Rachel threw well, with a best put of 6.66m. Charlotte threw 5.83m in the final round for her third personal best performance of the day.

The three girls were then involved in an epic high jump competition with Lauren and Rachel both having third time clearances during the competition before going on to produce personal best performances.  Lauren cleared 1.35m, a 5cm improvement on her previous best performance. Rachel cleared 1.38m to improve her personal best by a massive 13cm.  Charlotte was in fine form with seven first time clearances which improved her personal best by 6cm, her final clearance being 1.41cm which scored 523 points.

The final event, the 800m saw Lauren run her heart out in the first heat, stopping the clock at 2m 51.94s to secure another personal best performance and finish the competition in 17th overall with 1,950 points, an improvement of 473 points on her previous best score.  Rachel ran 3m 11.63s to complete her first combined events competition in 22nd place with 1,625 points.  Charlotte ran her first competitive 800m in a green vest clocking 2m 54.91s in the second heat to finish the competition 13th overall and secure her first county athletics medal.

Minithon

In the U13 girls Isabella Minder competed in the minithon where each competitor selects a run, jump and throw event. Isabella competed in the long jump (3.04m), shot (4.95m PB) and 200m (32.82s PB)
