Southern Athletics League match 2 Eton
SWith many athletes unavailable this weekend due to international competition, GCSE exams and injury’s, it was a depleted team that traveled to Eton for our 2nd league match of the season. For those that made the trip, there were some amazing performances and an abundance of support and encouragement. We may have come 4th in the match, but we fought to the end for every point.
For the women, many were competing in events for the first time, in the sprints Ella Gray took 3rd in the 100m and 4th in the 200m. In the B string Megan Stevens took 4th in 100m and Jenny Palmer took 4th in the 200m with a new PB of 28.63s. In the 400m Stacey Eyers came in 4th in 62.42s, while Jenny Palmer took 2nd in the B race in 66.75s.
In the 800m Milly Presland came 3rd 2:24.65 and in the B race Madeleine Claydon ran a PB to gain a 2nd spot. In the 1500m Stacey Eyers managed 3rd and Samantha Hart followed in the B race with another 3rd.
In the 5000m Ella Neale ran a PB in 4th in 20:33.54 and Samantha Hart took a 4th place in the B race in 21:55.24. In the 400mH Katy rice came in 3rd place. In the 1500S/C Millie Presland ran a fine race to take 2nd and a PB in her first time over the steeplechase. Madeleine followed up in the B race and took a real gutsy 2ndspot for the team in her first try at the event.
In the field events Megan Stevens and Katy Rice both took 4th in the high jump. In the long jump Millie Presland took 4th and Samantha Hart was 4th in the B. Samantha Hart then took on the triple jump with Megan Stevens both taking 4th spot. In the Shot Aliyah Soames and Megan Stevens both took 4th place. The Hammer Josephine Larkins threw 37.64m to take 3rd spot while Denise Larkins threw 19.02m to also take 3rd spot. In the Javelin Aliyah Soames took 3rd with a fine throw of 28.26m. Katy Rice came 4th in the B with a PB throw.
In the 4x100m relay Ella Gray, Megan Stevens, Stacy Eyers and Katy Rice got the baton round.
In the Mens events Callum Mckay was 4th in the 100m and Joe Wilkin was 3rd in the B race.
In the 200m Jake Young took a very impressive win with a PB of 22.40s and Joe Wilkin backed him up with a fine 3rd just outside his PB. Jake Young was back out in the 400m taking 2ndPlace in 49.38s. Sam Shippey ran a PB of 51.98 to take 1st spot in the B race.
In the 800m Sam Higgins and Danny Millward both took 4th spot. Luke Smith in his SAL debut, ran 2:13.04, with Thomas Colsell also making his debut, finishing in a time of 2:19.63. Paul Preston managed a time of 2:20.23.
In the 1500m Ermeas Afewerki ran a fine race to finish 2nd and Joseph Boden took 4th in the B race. In the 3000m Ed Mitchell and Danny Millward both finished 4th. In the non-scoring race, Dean Williamson, returned to the track after many years away, to run a strong race, to achieve 9:10.87 and Victor Steinwand in his first ever 3000m, ran 9:55.89.
In the 110m H Matt Rose ran well for 2nd spot in 16.44s. Matt gained another 2nd spot in the 400m H clocking 60.08. In the 400m H, Kai Chilvers ran the event for the first time and finished 2nd with a very creditable 61.91 a new PB.
In the 3000m steeple chase Ben Halls and Michael Smith both ran well to finish 3rd.
In the field events Joe Wilkin managed 4th in the high jump while Jake Young took 3rd in the B string. Matt Rose took a 3rd in the pole vault while Kai Chilvers and Luke Smith gave us both 4th spots in the long jump.
In the triple Jump Matt rose was 3rd with 11.74m and Kai Chilvers also took 3rd with a leap of 10.57m.
In the Shot James Hamblin threw 11.96m to win the event. Paul Cooper backed him up well with 2nd in the B string. In the Discus Matt Rose was given a minute to get from the Triple jump pit to the discus cage which he managed and he then threw 29.64m to finish 2nd James Hamblin came 2nd in the B string.
In the Hammer James Hamblin threw 53.87m to take the win. Paul Cooper was 3rd in the B string.
In the Javelin Paul Cooper threw well with 49.52m to come 3rd while Sam Higgins threw 44.25m to take top spot in the B string.
In the 4 x 100m relay Kai Chilvers, Joe Wilkin, Callum MCay and Jake Young came in 3rd.
So it was some tired athletes that took to the start of the Mixed 4 x 400m relays, with Stacy Eyers Jenny Palmer, Sam Shippey and Jake Young taking 4th in the A race. Madeleine Claydon, Ella Gray, Joe Wilkin and Callum MCkay also taking 4th spot in the B race.
It has to be a massive thank you to all of those Colchester Harriers athletes that fought so hard on the day and kept us in contention for 3rd spot right up until the very end.
