Dolggelau 5 mile, Mid Wales

Double victory for the Small’s

Colchester Harriers have a long tradition of success at the very hilly Dolggelau 5 in the heart of mid Wales. Yet Again Harriers did well with Alan Smalls and Fay Smalls making it a husband and wife family celebration with Fay winning the over 40 category in 50-37, and Allen  setting a new over 45 course record of 28.26 to finish 5th overall and only 45 seconds off overall victory.

Ellie Mayne who was runner up to team mate Laura Shewbridge at this event last year , went one better to claim the the overall first lady prize in 34-11 beating local girl Gwen Jones by a few seconds in a tight finish.  David Wright won his 7th Dolggelau age category taking the over 55 prize after a close run battle with a runner from Brecon in 31-12. Rachel Richardson-Wright continues to improve and was very pleased with her time of 49-41.

Shewbridge just holds off Manby

It does not come much tougher then the Alpe D’Huez Triathlon, but a pair of Colchester Harriers excelled in the cold water , rainy weather and extreme mountain cycling which makes this event famous. Shewbridge and Manby clocked 24-56 for the 1.2 km swim, 1-47 for the cycle of 30km, before Shewbridge got away on the 7km run with a time of 32-24 compared to Manbys 33-20.

Superb 5k times by Green vests

Maldon Park Evening Handicap Promenade road 5km

The latest Maldon 5km was held in near perfect conditions and some superd times were clocked by the green vests. Chris sellens led the charge with his second fastest run at Maldon and was the overall fastest man in 16-21, two of Harriers recent signings excelled with Richard Heath 2nd in 16-47, and Daz Farrugia 3rd in 16-58. Mark Harrod ran a personal best to make it a top 4 for  Harriers in 17-23.  Laura Shewbridge at last smashed the 19 minute barrier with a fine time of 18-54, while personal bests also came from Richard Boden 18-50,  Andrea James 20-01, Dan Wilkinson 20-36, and Dave Gayor 21-08. Other Harriers times were Pete West 18-09, Ian Haw 18-19, David Wright 18-35, Chris manby 18-48, Danny Millward 19-21, Simon Smith 19-32, Jo Boden 19-46, Holly Egan 21-29, John Wheatley 23-32, and Rachel Richardson-Wright 28-38.

Colchester Castle Park 5km

At the Castle Park Run it was runner up spot for Mark Harrod in 17-39, while Keith Marley was 9th in 19-15. Arthur Whiston had a great time clocking 19-53 just ahead of Rob Gibby in 19-57. Ellie Mayne was 2nd lady in 20-23 with Andrea James 3rd in 20-33. Jerry Walder had a personal best 20-46 as did Malcolm Statham in 21-14.
