Great runs by Harriers
Angus Holford and Chris Sellens were late callups for the Essex team in the Eastern inter-counties match at Peterborough, but both enjoyed superb runs. Holford ran a personal best 5000m on the track in 15:28 to finish runner up in a tight race which was just lost in the last lap, although Holford ran it in 65 seconds. Sellens was also runner up in the B string 5000m in a good time of 16:26. Stacey Eyres won the 800m and is getting back to her best.
Langham 10k
It was a full house of 800 runners at the Langham 10km plus a further 200 in the 5km. The Harriers ladies easily won the team prize thanks to a fine run by Marie Shirley who dominated the race to finish a couple of minutes clear in 39:54. Rebecca Cooke 41:41 was runner up, with Annette Oakman 43:41 and Rachel Taylor 45:59 completing the team. Other ladies to run well were Jo Martin 54:46, Becky Bjotter, Rachel Rodgers and Rachel Richardson-Wright 62:00.
14 year old Danny Millward had an incredible race in his first 10km finshing 4th overall in 35:35, to unsurprisingly take the junior award. Mark Harrod was just behind in 35:51 for 6th spot and won the first Veteran prize, with Paul Rodgers also up in the top 10 in 36:37. Craig Mitchell and Arthur Whiston ran both the 5km and 10km with Mitchell clocking a superb 18:22 in the 5km. Whiston an over 65 runner ran 44:47 in the longer event. Richard Boden won his first over 50 trophy in 39:38. Other times were Craig Harley 41:43, Richard Millward 40:55, Michella Clarke 50:29, Doug O’Neill 45:54, Dan Wilkinson 42:37, Joseph Boden 42:19, Ady Frost 45:00, Jamie Nelson 39:05, David Wright 40:13, Jerry Walder 40:09, Fiona Wattam 48:07, Darren Horner 55:24 and Kirsty Preece 55:25.
Clacton Triathlon
Paul Spowage was first veteran at the Clacton off road Triathlon although he found the sea swim tough in the choppy conditions.
Park Runs
The latest park runs saw Cameron Humphries warm up for next week’s 24 hour track race at Tooting, with a win at the slightly shorter Colchester Castle park run in 17:37. Phil Munro was 7th and David Wright 9th, Helen Bloomfield was 3rd lady with Jasmine West 6th and Sophie Stephenson 8th.
Andrea James was first lady at the Harwich park run in 21:12, David Wright was 4th at the Dolleggau event in Mid wales with Rachel Richardson-Wright winning her age group.
