Colchester Castle and Holkham  New year Park Runs

Success for Harriers ladies and men !

Harriers ladies were running well at the Park Runs and Laura Shewbridge was exceptional clocking a new course record of 18-54 on her way to victory at the Holkham 5km in deepest Norfolk. Chris Manby was 6th overall in 19-00.

Colchester Castle saw two 5km Park runs held in successive days with the New Years day race followed by the normal Saturday event.

The New Years day event saw Harriers Men and  ladies have a 1,2,3, finish thanks to Emily Moore 23-03, Anita Mussett 23-21, and Sophie Stephenson 24-17 for the ladies, and David Wright 19-23, Martyn Clarke 19-27, and Danny Millward 19-30 for the men. For both Moore and Wright it was their first ever Park run victories, Wright is the oldest winner so far ! Other Harriers in the 125 strong field were Joseph Boden 20-34, Richard Millward 20-39, Arthur Whiston 22-24, John Wheatley 24-19, Jerry Walder 24-28, Gavin Sandercock 26-47 , Rachel Richardson-Wright 30-06, and Kate Sandecock 31-29.

The Saturday race saw 268 runners facing up to the New year to battle the tough Castle Course. Richard Heath was 2nd in a great time of 17-45, with Ged McMillan 4th in 18-31. Keith Marley was 7th 19-17, while Hannah Watson was another Harriers lady to taste victory in 20-44. Jerry Walder ran better then the previous day clocking 20-51, it was a battle for the over 60 crown with new signing for Harriers Gary Raynor running 20-57 to beat rival Arthur Whiston 22-25,other Harriers running were Andy Raynor 21-40, Mark Baker 21-43, Dan Wilkinson 22-27,  Noah Cox 24-12,and Fay Smalls 28-21.

Statham racks up more Marathons

Colchester Harriers marathon man Malcolm Statham continued his quest for 200 marathons by running three in three days at the Great Barrow Challenge in the last 3 days of the old year. Statham was 4th in 3-57, 4th in 4-11, and 7th in 4-14. All the courses were off road in muddy conditions with strong winds. Statham now stands on 168 Marathons .
