Medal Haul at Eastern Champs
On Saturday 30th June four Colchester Harriers athletes travelled to Peterborough to compete in the Eastern Counties Championships and returned home with a haul of five medals.
First to compete was Stacey Eyers who maintained this season’s fine form running a tactical 800m race to claim victory and the gold medal in the senior women’s category. Her time of 2.22 was close to her personal best.
Next to medal was talented sprinter Daniel Jones who was narrowly pipped to the post in a highly competitive U17 mens 100m final. He won his second championship silver medal in eight days!
Out on the field Harriers youngest representative Olivia Simon competed in the U5 girls pole vault. She was in fine form as she worked her way through the heights until there were only two athletes left battling for the top spot. Olivia held her nerve and equaled her PB to win the competition and take the gold medal. She then dashed across to the hammer circle where she won a silver medal after a long delay in a competition packed with drama.
Finally U15 athlete, Samuel Shippey took to the track in his favoured event 300m. His blistering run saw him storm to victory, once again showing his class and winning another championship gold medal.
