Top 100 for Carwyn and Chris

Colchester harriers were celebrating after two of their athletes finished in the top 100 at the London Marathon British Championships. Carwyn  Jones 2:32:29 was 92nd just pipping training partner Chris Sellens who was 9 seconds behind in 2:32:38 for 95th spot. Both athletes ran personal bests and  have been trained by Pete West, who will be now priming his team for Halstead which is the Essex marathon in May. Daz Farrugi was 372nd in another personal best of 2:41:40. Also running his best ever marathon was Mark Harrod 894th in 2:50:50, Allen Smalls who clocked 2:53:55 for 1149th spot was a lot behind his 2:36 from last year but will be aiming to run Halstead in a quicker time.

Marie Shirley led the ladies home with another good run only a couple of weeks after running 3:06 at Manchester she clocked 3:07:16 and was 120th lady. Amanda Henry although suffering an injury in the last 10km hung on for 3:13:03 295th lady. Laura Shewbridge had been struggling all week but managed to just pip her personal best clocking 3:14:15 for 325th place. Andrea James had to curtail the race with an injury at 30km, Fay Smalls ran bravely for the whole distance to come home in 4:45:32. James Watersons training paid off with a superb time of 3:13:54 (3783rd) , Gary Rayor had been unable to train leading up to the race with illness and injury but took to the line and finished in 3:35:51 an excellent time by the over 60 runner. John Cottis who has run sub 3 hours found that time out loses you a lot of pace but completed the distance in 4:41:40.
