Jeggo Claims Superb Silver

by Chris Jeggo

The Manchester International took place at the Regional Arena on Wednesday 14th August. This is one of the main events in the national athletics calendar acting as a gateway competition between regional club events and the Commonwealth Games, giving athletes the experience of competing in front of a large crowd against strong opposition.

The competition consists of representative teams from each of the four home countries, a GB junior squad, the British leagues and two all-star teams. Selected for her first senior national team event in her final year as a junior, representing the UK Women’s League, Rebecca Jeggo competed in the 100m and the 4 × 100m relay.

Rebecca’s first race was the individual sprint. With strong starts by all athletes, Jeggo kept her form to remain within the top four positions at the halfway mark, finishing rapidly to take silver in a time equalling her personal best time of 11.87 seconds.

In the relay Rebecca ran the fourth leg. With the UK Women’s league athletes meeting together for the first time that evening, there was an error on the first change over. Despite getting the baton around the track they were one of a number of teams that were disqualified.
