Harriers Women Lift Essex League Trophy
Colchester Harriers all-conquering women’s team continued their run of recent success by lifting the Essex Cross Country League trophy after finishing second in the final race of the season in Hainault. Lydia Callan led the team home with a fine third place, her highest individual finish of the season and was backed up by strong runs from Emma Burgess (16th), super-vet Margaret Deasy (17th and 1st V55), Denise Morley (22nd, 2nd V50) and Ellie Cumner (27th) as the green vests pipped Havering AC to the title in a tight finish to the season. Harriers’ women also lifted the Vets team title and in addition there was individual recognition for a number of the squad with Callan finishing second overall in the season’s individual Senior Women’s standings, Morley second ranking V50 and Margaret Deasy taking the V55 Women’s title.
Cameron Humphries finished 47th in the men’s race with Paul Spowage 61st (2nd V55) and Paul Rodgers 102nd as the men finished the season in seventh place in Division 1.
In the juniors Finley Greenleaf capped off a fine season by coming home ninth in the U15 Boys’ Event so finishing eighth in the season standings.
Elsewhere Rosie Wild had a brilliant debut for the club winning the Aintree Half Marathon in a personal best time of 1:18:17 whilst Simon Miller continued his marathon preparations by running 2:48:42 at the Bramley 20 in Hampshire.
