English Schools Championships
English Schools Gateshead
What a couple of days it was for 3 young Colchester Harrier athletes at the 2015 English Schools Championships up in sunny Gateshead this weekend.
Bronze for Philippa Davenhall
U17 girl Philippa Davenall produced the throw of her life in the hammer competition to win an incredible bronze medal. The throw was a massive PB by 5 meters and has catapulted Philippa to 4th in the UK rankings just 4.92 meters short of the UK world U18 standard of 62 meters. A mention must go to Philippa’s coach Rob Earle who is doing a fantastic job with this up and coming training group.
Callum McKay
U15 Boy Callum McKay was selected for the 100 meters in his first ever championships. He negotiated his heat well coming 3rd in 11.69 against a fierce headwind to comfortably make the final on Saturday. In the Final Callum got his customary fast start but was overhauled in the final stages finishing a very creditable 5th in 11.52. He also ran the 1st leg in the Essex 4×100 relay team and in the final on Saturday he led the team off in fine style to a scorching time of 43.85 and a fabulous gold medal just missing out on a championship best performance
