Callan Shines on Essex Debut
Colchester Harriers’ up and coming cross-country star Lydia Callan continued her brilliant start to the season with another top-quality performance on her Essex debut in the South of England Inter-counties championships at Horspath in Oxford. The twenty-three year old Wivenhoe based runner looked very at home in what was a high class field, finishing in thirteenth place in an exciting blanket finish in which only six seconds separated positions eight through sixteen, so helping her county to second place in the team event.
On the roads two Harrier runners travelled across to Shropshire for the Telford 10K, one of the fastest road races in the country, and were both rewarded with big Personal Best (PB) performances on the flat, traffic-free course – Jack McGuire running 35:49 and Roanna Vickers 36:07. Closer to home Dan Macey clocked 36:03 in the Southend 5 mile Rudolph Run.
In parkrun action Jon Nears (17:50) was first home at Clacton Seafront with Andy Raynor (20:10) fourth, Matt Thomas (18:23) repeated the feat at Marks Hall, as did Laura Shewbridge (20:13) at Harwich and Susan Waller-Toyne (25:08) at Brandon Country Park.
