Alice wins and Finley runner up in AOC Regionals

Five Colchester Harriers traveled up as Colchester Sixth Form students to Norwich today to the AOC (Association of Colleges) Endurance Cross County Regional Race, over 5.6km.

Following her successful Senior debut at the relays at the weekend, Alice Begg followed this up with a stunning win. Showing her usual great pacing, she stuck to her plan, and was in third with just over 1km to go, but pushed through for the win and powered home in 24:10.

Isabelle (Izzie) Buegelln, after racing 300m and 400m all season put in a fine performance to finish 7th in 29:40, she will return again to aim to better that further still next year.

The Boys race literally went to the wire, with Finley Greenleaf just missing out on the win by a fraction, after an insane sprint finish at the end of the race, so 2nd position in a stunning 19:57, amazing also as Finley is a first year student.

Caleb Lee, also a first year, paced well and stayed strong throughout, finished 10th, with 22:10. Jake Phillips was running well until unwell on the course, but managed to continue to the end in a still respectable 13th position and 23:55.

The top 12 positions from each race qualified for the National AOC Endurance Champs in early April in Nottingham. So all are straight through to the Final except Jake will just have to wait, but is currently first reserve, and so hopefully will get the chance to race again. Well done to all the students today.
