River banks a great time in London
Wednesday evening saw a trip straight from school to London for River Reeve and Hayden Preston at the Battersea Park 5km Chase the Moon night race, and from College for Caleb Lee for the 10km race.
The evening didn’t start too well with several problems on the trains causing delays of almost an hour and not being able to get to the race venue until 20 minutes before the start time. A quick change, limited warm up, and ready to go.
The 5km starts first at 7pm, followed by the 10km a few minutes later, and with almost 800 runners it can get congested after the first lap, so being aware and planning moving through gaps is essential.
Hayden had a terrible stitch in his last 5km, and so a solid 17:46, 40th Overall 1st U15, without a stitch was a much improved run.
River set off at a tough sub 19 target, which was based on current training performances, and was overjoyed to complete the race with over a minute Personal Best in 18:36, 61st Overall 5th Female 1st U13, which will rank River 12th in the UK for 2025 currently.
In the following 10km, Caleb Lee knew he could race a decent time following his recent 10 mile race at Hadleigh, setting off at pace he dropped a touch in the second half but still smashed his PB with 37:17, 30th Overall 1st U20.
Well done to all three for making the journey straight after college and school, and racing so well.
