Men and Ladies have great results

Colchester harriers were involved in numerous competitions at the weekend with plenty of success. With the Essex Cross Country league having its opening fixture and the Essex 10 mile Championships at Tiptree also occurring the strain is already on for the winter. There were also other races with Sarah Stradling decided on doing the Great Eastern half Marathon at Peterborough and the 41 year old produced a fabulous run clocking 1:19:05 to finish 7th and 1st veteran in a very high quality affair. Elsewhere Laura Shewbridge smashed her personal best by 1 minute finishing runner up at the Martlesham 10km in 38:30.

Essex League XC

The One Tree Hill Essex Cross Country league fixture is held over a very tough course. Two new up and coming stars of the Harriers had superb results with Milly Presland the star turn finishing 3rd in the under 13 girls race, while the talented Danny Millward posted a 2nd spot in the under 15 boys race. Max Caulfield 6th and Ziggy Lambton 20th also were on top form. Another star turn is Hannah Watson who had her highest ever finish spot of 5th in the under 17 girls. Oscar Dawson is surging upwards coming to the line in 5th spot in the under 17 race with Jake Young just behind in 6th and Drew Olley 21st. For the under 15 girls it was a trio of fine runs Lizzie Woods 13, Hannah Rodgers 31 and Isabella Minder 32. Madeline Claydon is also on the way up with a 23rd spot in the under 13 race.

The senior ladies got off to a flyer finishing runners up behind Chelmsford AC in a close match. Rebecca Cooke was the star in 9th, backed up by Stacey Eyres 11, Denise Morley 12, Ella Neale 17, Annette Oakman 21 and Andrea James 28. Top 4 teams Chelmsford 42,Colchester Harriers 49, Basildon AC 61, Orion Harriers 63.

The men were satisfied with 4th spot. Carwyn Jones led the way with a strong race for 5th spot, Ramadam Osman was close behind in 8th place, then came Chris Sellens 12, Cameron Humphries 52, Paul Spowage 59, Tim Ballard 66, Russell Goodridge 85 and Pete West 89. Top 4 teams Havering Mayesbrook 154, Springfield Striders 180, Chelmsford AC 201, Colchester Harriers 202.

Tiptree 10

The 10 mile Essex road Championships at Tiptree saw a great 4 man team win in the open race for the green vests. Colin Ridley 9th 58:23, Mark Harrod 11th 58:57, Paul Rodgers 13th 59:12 and Ged Mcmillan 14th 59:29. New signing Andy Jobling looks like a real find coming to the line in 15th spot in 59:44. Second claim Harrier Angus Holford ran a well paced race to finish 3rd in 56:02 to take the Essex bronze medal.

The 3 man Essex team saw, Ridley, Harrod and Rodgers take the silver medals, with Ridley the individual gold medal winner in the over 50 category and Harrod the bronze medallist in the over 40 age group. Harrod is also the Grand prix winner for the over 40’s, as is Steph Horner in the over 45 category who ran 75:08 at Tiptree to just miss out on the bronze medal.

Other Harriers to finish were 26 Keith marley 63:46, 29 Andrew Dagge 63:58 (PB ), 34 Simon Smith 65:30 ( PB),40 Simon Wilson 66:03, 41 Richard Boden 66:16, 48 Jerry Walder 67:21 (Pb), 50 Richard Millward 67:30, 66 Jamie Nelson 69:12, 73 Kevin Higgens 69:52 ( Pb), 109 Dan Wilkinson 73:52 (Pb), 118 Simon Morgan 74:26, 127 Clive Thomas 75:08, 128 Steph Horner 75:08, 199 Angela Isherwood 82:19, 275 Darren Horner 89:54 and 276 Kirsty Preece 89.54.
Elsie Bilson won the Castle Park 5km in 20:15 with Heln Bloomfield 2nd in 20:39. Anthony Barraclough made it a double Harriers win with a hard fought victory in 18:12 with Andy Raynor close behind in a personal best 18:20 and John Fryer a good third.
