Colchester Harriers had excellent results recently in various competitions including reaching the final of the Eastern Masters track and field league with a fine win in the last fixture at the garrison track. The men needed to win to reach the Milton Keynes final while the ladies had already qualified. The men had a very strong team which ensured victory with some superb performances. Gavin Sandercock in the pole vault, Rob Earle in the javelin, David Wright in the hurdles and Nate Filer in the mile were some of the best results which were numerous throughout the team. For the ladies Diane Wooller and Denise Morley both competed in four events, with Ellie Cumner returning to run a fine 200m race. Denise Larkins won the hammer and Kate Gibson had a superb debut on track.

The Welsh 50 mile ultra was held in Dolgellau mid Wales and also included a three person relay for the first time. The storm warnings meant that the course had to be moved off the Cader Idris and Rhinog mountain ranges to a lower but very tough hilly course which tested the green vests to the limit. In a close fought contest between the three Harriers ultra stars Andy Jobling just came out on top getting away at 45 miles to finish  in second spot with Nate Filer third and Allen Smalls fourth (first veteran over 50). A great result by the Essex boys against the pride of Welsh fell running. The relay event held over a single 17 mile lap compared to the ultra runners three laps saw Harriers field three teams who amazingly finish second, third and fifth,  Ramadan Osman ran the fastest leg overall to lead the A team with Richard Flutter and Charlie Holihan to runners up spot. Third was Chris Manby, Paul Rodgers and Craig Mitchell. Alex Sales, James Waterson and Paul Wilkinson were fifth.   

The Stour Valley 50km saw Tom Cresswell finish fourth in 4hr 08m. Ged McMillan had to drop out with injury at 40 km.

Keith Marley led the Harriers home at the Dolgellau park run finishing fourth in 19m 05s. Sarah Stradling was second lady and Debbie Cattermole fourth.

Angus Holford won the Castle park run in 16m 57s with Jon Nears second, James Wright fourth, Ian Haw fifth and Fergus Crouch eighth. At the Highwoods event Laura Shewbridge ran a fine race to win easily in 19m 55s, a new record. She was also third overall. Russell Goodridge was first male home for the Harriers in seventh spot.
