Filer wins inaugural Reservoir race by David Wright

The first running of the Race the Reservoir 10 mile multi terrain event was held at the weekend in glorious weather, giving the runners an opportunity of good times and excellent views across the watery expanse. Colchester Harriers filled the first seven places with Nath Filer running an exceptional time of 1h 01m 03s to set the standard for next year and breeze to victory with team mates Richard Heath 1h 05m 09s and Allen Smalls 1h 06m 15s filling the minor places. Smalls was the first veteran while Jenny Richardson was the first over 50 lady. Other Harriers times were 4th Ian Haw 1h 07m 48s, 5th Alex Sales 1h 08m 00s, 6th Paul Rodgers 1h 08m 34s, 7th Keith Marley 1h 08m 43s, 9th Rob Cronshaw 1h 09m 23s, 11th Wayne Cook 1h 10m 18s, 12th Barry Frost 1h 11m 57s, 30th Gary Raynor 1h 22m 59s, 37th Graham Langford 1h 26m 41s, 40th Martin Claydon 1h 27m 32s, 41st Jenny Richardson 1h 27m 51s and 94th Brian Smith 1h 43m 37s.

Heidi Steele finally beat the 19 minute mark for 5km with a fine run at the Spanish Hacienda Del Alamo 5km winning the ladies race in 18m 58s.

The Staffordshire half iron man event was a very tough affair, but two Harriers girls were in top form, with Rebecca Cooke finishing in 5 hours 56 minutes and Louise Yates coming home in 6 hours 51 minutes.

The Framlingham Friday 5 mile race saw over 55 runner Pete West really hitting the heights taking the category prize in 29m 42s, John Hennington ran a personal best 34m 10s. Other green vests were Gavin Scanlon 30m 50s, Matt Davey 31m 19s, Adam Gerrish 31m 35s, Dan Summersgill 33m 17s and Ellie Cumner 36m 07s.

The hilly Boxted 10km was won by Ed Mitchell in 33m 55s while Debbie Cattermole was first lady and first veteran in the 5km event clocking 22m 09s. Jay Waite was first over 50 runner in the 10km.     

Local Park runs saw Ramadam Osman winning at Colchester Highwoods in 18m 00 with Allen Smalls 19m 31s and Cameron Humphries 20m 02s second and third. Andy Raynor 21m 13s was 8th and Jordi Moat second lady in 22m 02s a personal best for the course. At Clare Country Park Paul Rodgers was 3rd in 18m 37s with Kevin MacAlinden 7th in 20m 13s, Fran Norris was first lady in 24m 08s. Russell Goodridge was 5th overall in his first over 50 race at Great Notley Country Park in 19m 50s. At Maldon Promenade park it was 3rd for Paul Dobson in 18m 39s. Gavin Laws was 4th in 19m 06s. Ned Messer was 5th at Cudmore Grove, Mersea with Richard Boden 10th and Graham Langford 14th.
