Essex and Eastern Counties Indoor Championships

Colchester Harriers had an exceptional 2 days at the Essex & Eastern Counties indoor Championships at Lee Valley over the weekend with an abundance of Medals and PBs

On Saturday it was the short sprinters in action. In the U15 girls 60m Kira Wealls came 2nd with a PB time of 8.30. Megan Stevens won her heat with another PB 8.35. Savannah Harrison also went in the 60m coming 5th in 8.55 PB Lauren Strutt closed the 60m with yet another PB coming 3rd in 8.59 Kira Wealls and Megan Stevens progressed through to the semi finals running 8.34 and 8.40  just missing out on a final position. Lauren Strutt took part in the long jump coming 8th with a jump of 4.45 metres

Callum McKay and Charlie Dobson went in the 60m for the U17 boys Charlie ran well coming a close 2nd with a massive PB running 7.31 unfortunately the time was not quite enough to make the final.

Callum McKay ran a PB in his heat to win in 7.20 and in the final he won the Bronze medal equalling his PB with another 7.20

In the senior Men James Grant made his first outing of the season and came home 3rd in the men’s 60m final winning the Bronze medal in 7.51

On Sunday

The sprinters were back for the 200m Kira Wealls ran 27.61  in her heat a big PB coming 3rd and progressing through to the semi finals Megan Stevens also ran a PB 28.57   to come 3rd also progressing to the next round. In the S/F Kira ran herself into the final with a good run coming home 3rd in 27.67 Megan also had good run coming 4th in 28.05 another pb but Just missing a final spot. Kira ran well in the final but found the tight lane 1 difficult coming home in 5th in 27.74

Katie Rice and Savannah Harrison both went in the U15 girls 300m Katie was running well only to falter in the final stages with a slight knee injury. Savannah ran a fine race to make the final and picked up an Essex bronze medal.

U15 boy Daniel Jones had a good day he ran a fantastic 300m in 40.39 to take the silver medal

He also came 4th in the 200m in 25.64

Rebecca Jeggo ran 2 comfortable heats to make the U17 girls 200m final where she finished 3rd taking the bronze medal in a big PB 25.79.

Charlie Dobson and Callum McKay both went in the U17 boys 200m where they produced a superb race With Charlie Dobson finishing strongly to take the Silver medal and breaking the 5 year old club record and smashing his PB in 23.22. Callum picked up his 2nd bronze of the weekend also smashing his PB coming home in 23. 40

Jake Young and Oscar Dawson went in the U17 boys 800m where they produced a fantastic 1st & 2nd place, Jake Young winning Gold in 2:02.8 and Oscar taking Silver in 2:04

Stacy Ayers on her Harriers Debut ran well to finish 4th in the 800m in 2:22

Courtney Bland produced a jump of 9m 35 in the triple jump to take a well deserved Essex silver medal

And to the last race of the day and having won his heat in 50.75 in the U20 men’s 400m Connor Oliver took his place in the final where he took the race on from the start and in a nail biting finish he just held on to take the Gold medal in 50.81

A fine way to end a very successful weekend for Colchester Harriers athletes.

Connor Oliver, Jake Young and Charlie Dobson will all be representing Colchester Harriers in the National championships in Sheffield next weekend.
