Final details for the 89th Boxing Day Runners versus Riders cross country races for the Markham Cup

The 2019 Runners vs Riders cross country races (Colchester Harriers/CATS vs Colchester Rovers Cycling Club) take place at Friday Woods, Colchester on Boxing Day.

There is an under 13 race run over two laps of approx. 900m each starting at 10:00am. The main race takes place at 11:00am. This year because of a fallen tree on the course there is an extension of about 200 metres to each lap. Under 15’s running one lap, ladies running two laps and men three laps. Each lap is approximately 2100m long. The undulating course will almost certainly be muddy which will mean appropriate footwear i.e. spikes/studs/trail shoes are recommended. All cyclists must wear a helmet.

The Organiser have had to instigate some new initiatives to the race on Health & Safety grounds these include split start as per 2018 event and the issue of numbers,  recording of competitors details and signing a waiver to say you compete at your own risk – it is important that competitors  arrive with enough time to get signed In.

Park in the car park in Bounstead Road near the start of the race; please car share where possible.

The Organisers from Colchester Rovers CC and Colchester Harriers AC wish to extend their thanks to the MOD and Landmarc for their continued support in allowing the use of the venue for this historic race.

The riders look set to retain the Markham Cup with last years winner Cameron Hurst the red hot favourite to retain his individual title for the fourth consecutive year.
