Welsh Mountain Trail half and Marathon

Shewbridge has fine run

Coed Brenin forest in Mid Wales was the venue for one of the toughest events in Wales the Welsh Trail half and  Marathon 1200 runners competed in this extremely well managed race. Three Harriers took it on with Laura Shewbridge clocking 1-54 over the course which included the mountain bike trails and long rocky paths and hills. Shewbridge’s time gave her 4th place just missing out on the podium, In the marathon David Wright and Chris Manby reached half way in 1-58 before knee problems saw Manby forced to drop back, Wright finished  44th in 3-55 with Manby coming to the line in 4-30.

North Downs 30km

Clarke high up in finishers

The North Downs way is a very old established race with the very tough North Downs terrain a real tester. Over 50 runner Martyn Clarke had a fine race clocking 2-31 for 59th position out of the 600 starts, unluckily Simon Smith went off course and finished in just over 3 hours.

Bilton runs through the pain to finish West Highland Way

Colchester Harriers competed far and wide recently , Jason Bilton started the ball rolling by taking part in the tough West Highland way race  . The 95.8 mile course over very rugged terrain starts at Milngavie and finishes in Fort William. Conditions were reasonable and Bilton stuck to the task although suffering from toothache and recovering from recent illness. 188 runners started of which 155 finally made Fort William, Bilton was 73rd overall in 24-49 a great performance  From the Colchester runner.

Round Mersea Island Race

Win at last for Jones

Carwyn Jones has been runner up last two years at the round Mersea race, but the tall Harrier put things  right with a superb run to win in 1-16 well clear of the field. Colchester Harriers also took the team prize thanks to Mark Harrod 4th 1-21 and Paul Rodgers in 8th position.
