Weekend roundup 27th/28th October

The first Essex League Cross Country event of the season got underway at Hockley on Saturday Colchester Harriers athletes had to dig deep in cold conditions to record a number of respectable results, in the Men’s 8.8k  the in-form Ed Mitchel showed his mental toughness with a well placed 5th place, 17 yr old Ermeas Afewerki in his first Senior race found the course challenging to finish a fine 54th, good support came from Michael Smith 67th; Gavin Scanlon 69th with determined runs from Paul Spowage V50  84th, Peter West V50  92nd, Chris Manby 109th and Andrew Taczynski 140th.   The team came a worthy 5th.

In the Ladies 6k race the Green Vests packed in well to finish a fine 3rd with splendid results coming from Rebecca Cooke 15th, Denise Morley 16th (2nd O45), Heidi Steele 22nd, Helen Taczynski 23rd and Ellie Neale 25th.

U17 Men’s 6k saw Danny Millward come in a fine 11th

In the U15 Girls Milly Presland showed up well to finish 7th . Good runs came also from U13 Girls  Alexandra Bell-Cobbold 13th  Alice Begg 31st Daisy Rickwood 38th and  U13 Boy Charlie Parmenter 44th.

Further afield the Harriers were in terrific form Ramadan Osman was setting his mark in the East of England flying round the Fenland 10mile Road Race at West Walton to come home lst by nearly 4 minutes in a time of 52 m 41secs PB.

At the Brighton 10k super Vet Adrian Mussett showed he is getting back to form after injury  he crossed the finishing line in an excellent time 33m 10sec.    In the Neots Park Run Dave Wright broke the Over60 records by 60secs and looked set to be a force to be reckoned with  in this age group.

At the Colchester Park Run Jason Gunn came lst 17.38 with Ian Haw coming 3rd 18.20 followed by James Wright 4th 18.36 .   First Lady was track specialist Nicola Martell-Smith 22.27 PB Making it a good weekend for the Harriers.

At the North Essex South Suffolk (NESS) cross country races at Writtle College the juniors started the season in winning ways.   Tom Palmer led the team home to victory finishing in first place followed very closely by Victor Steinwand 3rd and the fast finishing Samuel Shippey in 4th. Tommy Colsell has made considerable improvement on last season and was rewarded with his highest ever placing coming in 6th. Our younger juniors also had super runs. Theo Gardiner 12th, Charlie Parmenter 18th, Harrison Leek 21st and Michael Woods 36th.
Milly Presland was the clear winner for the girls team finishing in first place. Alexandra Cobbald Bell had a great run to finish 3rd and Madeleine Clayton 5th. Grace Gardiner had one of her best races 10th, Daisy Hilson 13th, Jess Longstaff 19th, Alice Begg 23rd, Emily Swan 24th, Jennifer Palmer 27th, Emily Longstaff 29th, Jennifer Woods 45th and Mia Ghignoni 46th.
