Mitchell has great run at Manchester

The Manchester Marathon is becoming a top class event and a handful of Colchester Harriers were involved this year with some superb results. Ed Mitchell who has won a handful of good quality races in the last year including an Essex 5 and 10 mile road Championship was in sparkling form at Manchester clocking a personal best 2h 31m 46s to finish 23rd overall. Veteran Paul Preston is also in cracking form and came home in a new personal best 2h 49m 00s, knocking four minutes off his previous standing. They were followed home by Mark McKeown 2h 56m 47s, Richard Flutter 3h 10m 21s (PB), Jay Waite 3h 16m 53s (9 minutes off his best) and Kevin Stevens 3h 28m 41s, a ten minute improvement on his previous best ever time.

Tom Cresswell won the Lowestoft 5 mile race in 28m 05s, nearly two minutes clear of the field.

Nath Filer won the first ever Layer multi terrain 5 mile race, with Jason Gunn runner up followed by Paul Rodgers 3rd. Keith Marley was 5th and first veteran over 50, while Ella Jeffries was second Lady.

Park run round up
Debbie Cattermole had an amazing run at the Stretford Park run in Manchester. Cattermole set a new veteran lady over 55 record of 21m 11s taking 28 seconds off the previous record. The age graded rating saw her hit 84% which is National standard.

Heidi Steele won the Maldon Promenade event in 19m 39s with Will Radley second man home in 18m 07s. Andy Conway was 10th in 20m 10s.

Colchester Highwoods saw Ramadam Osman win a close run race in a superb time of 16m 38s with Andrea James making it a Harriers double taking first lady in 22m 33s.

Colchester Castle saw 399 runners finish with Alexandra Hennessy first lady in 21m 45s, with Jordi Moat runner up in 21m 54s. For the men it was Jason Gunn 2nd in 17m 12s, with Paul Rodgers 3rd, Jon Nears 4th, Cameron Humphries 5th and Alex Sales 6th. Richard Millward ran a personal best for the Castle in 19m 46s in 9th spot while Sean Duffett made the top 20 in 20m 10s.

Tim Ballard wad third at Great Notley Country Park.

Russell Goodridge was runner up at Mersea Cudmore Grove in 19m 38s. Susan Walker-Toyne was third lady.

Paul Dobson 18m 11s was also 3rd at the Clacton Sea Front run.

Keith Marley first over 50 and Paul Rodgers third overall at Layer on Sunday
