EYAL: Ipswich‏

What a start to the EYAL . The green vests turned out in good numbers with the girls out numbering the boys from Colchester Harriers on Sunday at a very windy and cold Ipswich. A total of 45 girls turned out compared to 21 boys and all competed with plenty of Personal Bests for those starting the outdoor season and some promising and a few, outstanding performances from new athletes.

In the Under 13’s there were outstanding performances from Eliza BETTS, PBS in 100 & 200 and a brilliant 1.32 in the high jump. Niamh HIGGINS blasted home in the 1500 in 5.40.1. Hannah RODGERS took over a minute off her 1500 PB to run it in 5.53.8. also achieving a PB in the hurdles. Aliyah SOAMES showed promise in the throwing events – shot-6.90, javelin – 15.23 and PB in 200.

Newcomer u13 boy, Graig Anya Scott set a great time for his debut run in 100m 13s and 200m 27.2s and is going to be one to watch. James Setford had PBs in long jump, hurdles and 100m. Ziggy Lambton did a great javelin a new event for him, while new athletes Matthew Wisdom and Charlie Walder made great contributions to the team points, after just a few weeks training with the club.

In the Under 15’s Hannah WATSON made her debut in style with a fantastic run in the 1500 in a time of 5.31.4 to go straight to javelin where she threw it a distance of 27.29, breaking the club record. There were PB’s achieved by Caitlin McKenna in the 300 with Rachel HODDELL and Katie RICE also making the step up to that distance in fine style. Megan STEVENS got a PB in long jump, whilst Lauren STRUTT did very well in shot and discus. Throwers continued to perform well with Lily WATERSON gaining a PB in Javelin and discus.

U15 Mufaro Shava returned from injury to run a strong 100m in 12.2 with Daniel Jones smashing his PB in 100m, 300m and gaining more valuable points in his first high jump. Jedidiah Amesota new to the club ran a strong 100m/ 200m of 12.7 and 25.9 respectively. Sam Horn was a keen new athlete happy to put his spikes on for any event asked and gained team points in 300m,long jump and discus (every team manager needs an athlete this keen)! Well done to Joseph Boden and Danny Milward who both recorded PBs in the 1500m, knocking quite a few seconds off their times as did Marcus Holmes with his 800m.

The Under 17s performed well (women gaining most points for the club) with PB’s being achieved by Courtney Bland in high jump with 1.40, Philippa DAVENALL in discus with a throw of 31.91, Yasmin OTHMAN in javelin with 29.21. Debuts were made by Evie WYARD showing a gutsy performance in the 300 and javelin and Katie Millar in the 800.

Charlie Dobson started his outdoor season with an early PB in 100m with newcomer Donovan Drayton matching his time of 12.6s. Jake Young continued where he left off last season by improving his time at 400m to 53s. Max Williams made his debut for the club at 1500m and High jump with strong performances in both, with Oscar Dawson and Charlie Everest both achieving PBs in 800m, Oscar also put in a last minute addition of triple jump at 9m80cm. Tom Mitchell, Jordan Fester and Jack Singleton were all on the field throwing Javelin, shot and discus, Jordan Fester throwing a Pb in Javelin at a new heavier weight in the u17m.

The day finished with a team out for all the girls and boys relays and some exciting racing. To top the day off the team finished a fabulous 3rd overall with 516 points, a great start to the season.
